What's Your Favorite Pen Carrier?

Plume145

Recommended Posts

I just want to see everyone's favorite pen holders - the ones you use to move your pens around to work/school or when traveling, not the ones you have at home (those will be a different thread, although there are a few already I believe). If you have multiple favorites, like maybe your favorite single-pen carrier, your favorite larger carrier, etc, feel free to show them all! Whether or not you tell us what you love about it is also up to you - whatever you feel like!

I'd start, but one of my top three holders is stuck in storage and I can't get to it to photograph! But I will probably have it back this weekend, then I'll post :-)

I'm not affiliated with ANY of the brands/retailers/shops/ebay sellers/whatever I mention or recommend. If that ever changes, I will let you know :)

Looking for a cheap Pilot VP/Capless - willing to put up with lots of cosmetic damage.

The only one I have is my favorite!!!

Just an old pair of jeans that got the scissors attacking them one night. An hour or so later (I don't sew often), I had this little thing patched together. Works perfectly!

The brown one is such a lovely color, so sweet! But it's the vintage one that really gets me :) Very neat and simple! I really like this zip-around style, I always feel it is more protective for the contents than the flap-over styles (some of them have a gap at the top where sharp things could poke through and scratch your ink lovelies) but with less bulk since there's no flap!

Love this one! Looks great, but it's creative too! It really is genius though, because since it's jeans if it gets dirty rattling around your bag or dragging accross desks and tables, you just toss it in the wash! And denim, especially dark, is kind of a modern classic that means it looks neat and tidy enough for some professional situations, but not stodgy like so many of these black leather 'executive' style things. I wish I knew enough sewing to do that :-/ I keep meaning to set up my mother's sewing machine and sit down with her so she shows me what she knows, but we never get around to it :)

Keep 'em coming folks! And this weekend I should post mine too ;)

Just sit down with the machine and have fun. Even if you bind it up really bad (I did a few times with mine - That $100 sewing machine really wasn't made to slam through 4 layers of denim LOL :roflmho: :roflmho: :roflmho:!!!) it's easy enough to fix.

Also, if it's your mother's machine, it'd likely be a proper machine that actually has some power behind it!

This old leather cigar case. Pictured with Duofold Centennial and Vac Oversize poking out!

A piece of felt lines both tubes to protect my nicely polished pens!

Case is very solid and really gives me a feeling of confidence as to the safety of my pens when I'm out and about.

Here is my favorite; it's a Horween leather 4 pen case from Doane Paper.

Hmm, for some reason two of those pens seem out of place ;) lol

If the genders aren't the same..... just let them have some 'alone time' and keep the cover closed in that case for a few months...

Hmm.. specifically, (according to speciesinfo.com) they'll need 36 days to do their thing. (Give them 37 for some 'warmup' time ;))

What is produced may only be a M105, but still, it will be a baby and may grow into a 205 or even a 400!

I know!! That's totally what I should do. Except I always remember at odd times when I can't just sit down and do it right away, and then I forget! (This will make more sense if I tell you I have a bunch of different projects, crafty and non-crafty, that are in progress at the same time. It's fun, but sometimes it's also a bit maddening hehe)

And yeah, it is a halfway decent machine - sort of mid-range. But not because my mom is some kinda accomplished seamstress or anything - she has a great eye for cutting stuff (without a pattern I mean) because she's an artist and drawing is a particular strength of hers, but her sewing is pretty basic. It's just she knows more than I do, and she's the only person I'm close enough to ask who does AND also has time to show me hehe (helps that she knows my learning style, too).

I bet it does! It also looks nicely loved and battered, a big plus in my book especially with leather.

oh wow! that color makes me *drool* But dude, didn't you have four FPs to put in there? Or at least something simple but honorable, like a nice pencil? Did it have to be a *highlighter*? Unless you're trying to subtly hint for a pen exchange or something ;)

jk :P

@dean, that thing is a beauty! Though it makes me a little claustrophobic for the pens inside :(

I really like this penvelope thing! It's a wonderful color to start with, but I love that it's the usual pen pouch format you see with up to 3 slots, but with more than that. Very handy!

unfortunately, I couldn't turn up the fave pen slot this weekend like I'd promised. It's unlikely to be lost for good, because it's not the kind of thing I would toss aside carelessly, but a few years ago I had to pack up for a house move very hurriedly and even leave a good bit of my stuff stored as I was moving somewhere a lot smaller. Something had to give, and forsaking tidy, organized packing was better than skipping anything else, so now it can be hard to find things I remember storing as it sometimes means going through all of the boxes. I tried the two most likely, but to search more would mean a lot of mess. I'm planning on going through those things later this summer, though, so when it turns up I will post it because it's kinda fun, a bit like dean's except even more battered and even more basic to start with :)

In the meantime, here's the current faves:

fpn_1340646798__fave_pen_carriers.jpg

Left to right:

1 & 2 are the same thing - a Parker pen tube thing that comes with some of their cheaper sets (IIRC one wasn't even with the fountain pen, it was just the usual BP+pencil). I bought the entire set (which okay, was pretty cheap) just for the tube. And then a few years later, I did it again - because I couldn't find the first one (see above re: hurried house move) and I liked it just that much. It only fits a single pen unless they're as skinny as vectors, but I love that it's almost crush-proof.

3 is the pen tubes they use internally at MB. I didn't buy this, but wheedled it one day when I showed up to pick up my pen from service without a case. Showing the guy the inside of my purse with stuff like keys, pen knife, nail file, pry tool, and other scratch-tastic things rattling about was all it took to convince him to find me something, and this was it. What I love about it is that it's sturdy like the Parker tubes, but a lot more compact (and adjustable too - with the parkers I have to stuff the end with a cloth or bit of tissue to stop the pen from rattling inside, but not with this).

4 is a 3 or 4 pen case (actually a small pencil case) by Midori - made years ago when they were still Midori and not designphil. I love that it sits in-between a pencil case and a pen pouch with separate slots; I can put multiple pens (which are snug inside and therefore do not knock against each other) or I can put one pen and some small accessories like an eraser or sharpener etc. I also love the styling - dark denim-y fabric and bamboo-y zipper pull (dark denims are the ONLY denims for me hehe). There's even a cool bonus: the label at the end is actually in the form of a loop, so you can use it to thread a keyring and then hang the Whole Thing on the inside of a bag so it stays safe as well as accessible.

5 is another freebie single-pen pouch - this one came with a cheapie Parker FP that I never got writing smoothly (and didn't have much motivation to as it's weapons-grade heavy and kinda fugly, poor thing). It only has a little padding so not as protective as the tubes, but I like that it's so compact I can put it in a larger case with other pens. So if I want to carry a pen with a more delicate finish in a larger case with a bunch of other stuff, I can do it and still keep it protected by using this. And because it closes completely, it's still better than one of those cheap pen sleeves you get for a few dollars a pack of five or something as you can also use it on its own in a pocket of your bag. The keyring trick works on this too, but you have to use the zipper pull as there's no handy label like with the Midori.

All of these guys are several years old and have been used in all kinds of fairly demanding situations, including several trips and for classroom use. The only exception is the Repair service tube, but that quickly won me over for the compactness :)
