Thanks for an excellent review and great pictures. I envy your handwriting, just beautiful. :notworthy1:

Lovely pen, great handwriting and an even better review

One of these days (well, maybe next year ;) ) I'm gonna get one just like yours ;)

And, of course enjoy this pen for years to come :)

Very smooth writer, huge Nib, nice working piston, nice color.

The F nib is wider than M205 and FC (F) nibs i have, and well wet writing.

It is also heavier than my M205 and in par with Faber Castell e-motion.

It's overall height is something that help me write more effortless than any other pen i had try.

So far very happy. I first went for M600 but when i saw M805 it blows my mind...puddle.gif and so came the..eureka.gif.... Forget about 600 and take 805 with you in the end of the day....

The man in the store also gave me, for free, the Edelstein INK Of the Year 2012 witch makes a very wet writing duo, with M805.

Pelikan : M805 Souveran Black-Blue-Silver (F), Ductus 3110 (F), Classic Taupe M205 (F) Waterman : Carene Royal Violet (M) Faber Castell : E-Motion Croco Brown (F), Loom Orange (M), Ambition Rhombus Black (M) Pilot : MR Silver (M), MR Animal Mat Black Croco (M) Lamy : Safari Umbra Mat (M), Safari Black (M), Vista (EF) Pentel : Tradio Nature (M)

Hi dashdotdot,

Just wondering on two things, have you sent along to have a grind on the nib and does this pen skip a lot ?

I am planning to get one by mid July

So far I'm just enjoying the nib as is. I does occasionally skip, but not to the point of frustration. I'd say it could use perhaps just a touch of a hint of a moonlit shadow of a grind to make it perfect, it's that good out of the box.

Great review! I love this pen with IB nib. I own the green striped one.

Unfortunately, the misaligned tines is very common out of the box, or even after some weeks or months of writing. The softer the nibs are, the more prone to the misalignment. But it's pretty easy to tune the tines just using your nails. There are some videos where nibmeisters show how to do that. And you need a magnifying glass too. Probably, this is the main reason why current pen brands hesitate to make and sell springy- flexible nibs. People nowadays don't know how to tune the nibs themselves (I'm not saying this is you case, of course). Sure, it's hard or even impossible to do something, if you have not seen once at least.

That's about right. In fact because this nib is so wide, it seems that some overzealous pressure will easily push the tines out of alignment. I sometimes flip the pen over and roll the nib lightly on a soft surface to eliminate the slight scratchiness that can return after a long writing session.

That's the one that got away. I'll probably end up getting an M nib to swap in and out with the IB... but they're so expensive, it'll have to wait.

And speaking of expensive, I've been writing with iroshizuku ku-jaku lately, it's a pretty ink that shades nicely with the IB nib:

This is not to steal your post, dashdotdot. :notworthy1:

Here goes my M805 Italic nib, writes as smooth as silk. I can concur that there is some skipping but it will ease out as long as you continue to write with this lovely pen.

Fantastic pen, I've got exactly the same but with an EF nib. Bought it a few months back as a birthday present to myself! Use it every day with Mont Blanc Midnight Blue as I want permanent ink as I also use it for signing official letters at work. The other pen I use alongside the M805 is the TWSBI Diamond 540, love both the pens so much, the Mont Blanc 146 LeGrande has taken a back seat.

Enjoy! This has become the pen I use the most, it's just so much fun to write with. I admit that some days I will just copy any old thing just for the pleasure of writing with it, even when I have nothing to say! I also write with it posted almost exclusively now, in spite of what I said in the review, and I hold it further up the barrel. I find this position well balanced and very pleasant.

Lately, I've been filling it with J.Herbin Bleu Nuit, because it's almost the exact color of the barrel, and I have the annoying tendency to want to match inks to my pens. I find this pen is just as wet as it needs to be, and the skipping, as you say, has become almost nonexistent, with time. I also gave the nib a very (very!) light polishing with a nail buffer, which removed an ever so slight scratchiness I felt at a certain angle.

Nice review -- and nice handwriting.

The M805 is easily one of my favorite all time FPs. I have the all black with medium stub and two in solid blue (medium stub and broad stub). The solid blue M805 is so gorgeous. Too bad that version is discontinued.

Nice review with excellent pictures.

I bought a black 805 and love it! I think the black and silver gives it a clean look.

I too found the tines to be misaligned. I tried to fix it myself, but a slight scratchiness stayed.

Send the pen to Francis Goossens (a.k.a. Fountainbel) in Belgium for tuning and had him grind it from a round B to a stub.

The turn around time was amazing: within days I had it back and it is a wonderful pen.

Smoothness 11 out of 10!! It is on the same level as my Delta Stantuffo with a stub nib by Mike Masuyama.

It has become my preferred pen for daily use.

Francis doesn't want to be called nibmeister, but he worked miracles with this pen. Heartily recommended!

kind regards

Rob
