Have You Used Lambeth Cartridge Paper 130Gsm?

I have the opportunity to try some paper called Lambeth Cartridge paper for Journal making this weekend and I wondered if any of you have tried it?

It is described as 130gsm, British-made Fourdrinier acid-free paper in a white shade. The interesting part is the sheet size which is B2 or 700mm x 500mm.

My first concern is how to cut this for a Journal. Assuming the grain on the B2 sheets follows the long edge as usual, If I cut it down to B4 then fold in half for B5, the grain will be going across the pages. Any ideas on how I should cut to get the grain going the correct way without causing a lot of wastage?

Problem solved - it turns out that the B2 sheets must have been cut from a larger size, probably B1 for ease of shipping. I can confirm that these sheets as sold by RATCHFORD in the UK are B2 Short Grain.

This means that if your intended page size is B5 or B7 the grain goes up and down the page just as it should but if you try to use B6 it will go the wrong way. To be honest, with pages as small as B6 you will be able to get away with it. Think of a B5 journal being the same height and width as a standard hardback book or Large Format paperback. A B6 is not really pocket sized but would be good in a bag.

Now to get folding...
