Today's word is CARTESIAN. Boy! Rene Descartes had a big nose.

roflmho.gifclap1.gif Bierce is really dead? HIs observations are so modern.

Your ink shades nicely. I do think you need to save these and publish a new edition of the book, illustrated by you.

I'm officially a fan and I want a signed copy.embarrassed_smile.gif

Wow - ! - great work; I've thoroughly enjoyed this thread - and agree that this work could be published as an FPN "fundraiser" of sorts - !

- of course, signed copies of your work would be "in demand"...!!

I think you'd be great as a "political cartoonist" or other single-panel illustrator; you've got a sharp visual wit and sense of humor -!

- looking forward to your continued visual interpretations of the "dictionary" - !!

Well, I have just changed pens and inks, not the wisest choice, I ran out of ink sample before finishing the drawing so I had to dilute the ink with water. Ooops! The first word is CEMETERY and the second is CHILDHOOD.

Well it looks like I am going monochrome, or shall I say "grayscale" for the next several days. I am starting with a gray ink (Diamine Gaius Julius Caesar - De Atramentis) and a gray pen (Merlina). The words are: CLERGYMAN and CLIO.

There will be more browns and blues coming up... after the monochrome grayscale phase.

Newjelan, with regard to the penmanship. Thanks for the compliments, I guess practicing has made a difference.

So, with no further ado, today's words are: COENOBITE, COMFORT and COMMENDATION. I had a lot of fun with COENOBITE, remember the Hellraiser movies?

Today's words are quite a few: COMPULSION, COMMONWEALTH and COMMERCE. Whew. That was a lot! (I felt a compulsion to write COMPULSION again. Please refer to yesterday's post.)

The poetry's from the original Bierce: he scatters verse throughout the original Devil's Dictionary, a lot of it very funny.

Thanks. I have not read any Bierce, this thread is actually my first exposure. I wondered because he has initialed it KQ.

Yes, a lot of the poetry in the Devil's Dictionary comes from "writers" and "religious figures" invented by Ambrose Bierce. Thank you all for your compliments. This has turned into quite a daunting project, but I have learned so much about history, vocabulary, penmanship and drawing that it is well worth the effort.

Here are today's entries: CONDOLE and COMPROMISE:
