Let's Declare A National Fountain Pen Day

Recommended Posts

Facebook site is up now: https://www.facebook.com/FountainPenDay

We'll be at the DC show on Saturday afternoon if anyone wants to talk in person about this. :)

Thanks for being a part of this!

I've already liked the Fountain Pen Day Facebook page.

Nobody came forward to volunteer to do a flier for the DC pen show, and I'll be stuck at home in California this weekend. But I do hope others will start a little chatter about our inaugural Fountain Pen Day.

I also hope that other FPN members can pitch in to help and/or come up with ideas for a way to get the word out, generate interest, etc.

I had a long, hot day and my brain is fried ...

What's next on the Fountain Pen Day agenda? Anyone have suggestions?

Melissa <---who wants to know: Have your written with a fountain pen today?

As we get closer, maybe some of the writers here on FPN can craft a news article, once we get agreement on what this first FPD will look like.

Just think, if we each sent a copy to our respective local newspapers and asked them to run it as we get nearer to November, imagine the coverage we would get around the world! We could almost blanket the earth.

How about we also add a directory of the fountain pen stores (online and in-store) on the website?

I think I will celebrate IFPD by buying a new fountain pen.

I think that would be helpful.

I think we can do that with no problem... Maybe as an incentive we can send out emails and ask if they would help promote it. We put them on the page of stores & sources if they simply help honor the day. Even if they just simply remind people of it and support it.

What do you think?

I could title the page "Celebrate the FPD with these retailers" or something like that....

Can we do a Fountain Pen Ink Bottle Day next....?

Send me one full ink bottle and I will reply with a date for Fountain Pen Ink Bottle Day. Make it an Akkerman bottle and I'll let you pick the date we celebrate.

P.S.

You did hit the "like" button on the Fountain Pen Day page, didn't you?

We are at 94 ... would love to see it roll over to 100 soon.

I was #100. Do I win something?! ;)

My gratitude! Oh...you wanted something better?

Eventually, there will be at least one little FPD giveaway, a new, unused Indian pen and a vial of ink. It's not much, but that's all I have to share at the moment. I have no idea how we'll conduct a giveaway. Any ideas? Any other donations?

I think there was some talk about moving the Fountain Pen Day discussion to the Chatter forum, where it might be seen by more FPN members. So if you see thread starting to go cold, you might want to look for a new one on that forum.

Just title the new one 'ignore this' and you'll have plenty of lookers!

In the UK we celebrate the 05 Nov already...it's a day where we celebrate a man who tried to blow up our parliment by lighting a huge bonfire and buring scarecrows amde in his image. It's also an excuse for fireworks and a BBQ or hog-roast. And beer, of course. Children dance about with hand-held sparklers. And there are always terrible burns related injuries, caused completely by a heady combination of the previous mentioned items.

So if we're having NFPD the day before, can we also look to shoe-horn in a BBQ, fireworks and the risk of potential burns related injury to give it a little edge?! :roflmho:

Currently searching for these parts:

- MB 242 cap- MB 254 cap- MB 252 cap

Sure, so long as you ensure there are no hedgehogs in the bonfire pile! :)

So, there will come a day when NFPD falls on the 5th of November. You will go to the biggest bonfire nearby with your pack full of disposable FPs, won't you? Each with an NFPD gift tag tied neatly to the cap.

"Hello. Have you heard of the delight available to you by writing with a fountain pen?" "You haven't and you're not interested? All right, then."

<Sound of a few shuffling footsteps.>

"Hello. Have YOU heard of the delight..." :roflmho:

Does anyone have any links to mention of Fountain Pen day that I can post. I have had inquiries from some of my contacts in other places. I cannot use the facebook one because I am not on it. I have checked the Goulet site and there is no mention that I can find. If anyone is doing any kind of specials for that day, I would like to know so that I can post that information.

We've been chatting a bit about it on Ravelry dot com, but no one's got anything formal going on.
