I have one, and have tried two carbon inks in it, the original Platinum Carbon cartridge, and Pelikan Fount India. I found that the pen would dry out in the nib overnight with both of them.

I disassembled the nib assembly to clean it, hoping I would find a problem in the feed slots or nib, but there were none.

So, I filled it with Noodler's Heart of Darkness instead. Perfection. Immediate start, even after a couple of days stored nib up, with a deep, rich black colour which is almost as well behaved on bad paper as the Carbon inks.

However, I like the idea of having a Carbon Ink in a Carbon Pen, so I think the next fill will be Sailor Kiwaguro.

Old thread, I know, but I have been blown away by the reliability of my carbon desk pen. Mine has a super fine nib, with a carbon black ink cartridge.

For years, I abused the storage of it, just had it banging around in a backpack, briefcase... It never failed to start up immediately, perfect flow. I could not use it for months, and it would still work perfectly -- as if I just installed the cartridge, every single time.

After two years of not using it (it was laying flat in a drawer), I picked it up and started using it. I expected problems, but no, it worked perfectly. Just incredible.

So there appears to be some variation in the quality of the pen with regard to the cap keeping the pen from drying out.

The first ink cartridge finally ran out, I just replaced it. With a super fine nib a cartridge can last a very long time...
