Savanna (Savannah? anyone know for sure the correct term?)

2 different generations. The right one should be from the original run (no W. Germany imprint)

Safari Alpin. 2 versions (very difficult to photograph):

On the right, the more common shiny version

On the left, the much rarer textured (or matte) Safari Alpin white fountain pen.

Both with W. Germany imprint.

Another Alpin, shiny; pharmaceutical promotional pen:

Safari Hot (red).

Barely visible advertisement: "Dynafit ski boots", just a bit elevated from the surface. Maybe they changed their minds, or the seller thought it would be less attractive with the imprint...? It has a W. Germany imprint and a markless black nib.

Oh! Orange one with cross cap top??? This is also the reissue as Lime 2011? Anybody has more information? Thanks.

It looks like Regina Martini may have a few of these. She re-listed after selling one this morning. See: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LAMY-safari-13-orange-fountain-pen-cross-cap-/350597858793

Hi,

I'm Ellen from the Netherlands. I'm just recently getting back to writing with fountain pens after more than 15 years hardly using them. I had a Sheaffer Slim Targa when I was a student and stopped using it because I coudn't fill them anymore (and because computer writing took over).

Recently I found out about filling old cartridges so now I'm back to using my old Targa.

I also just bought a Pink Lamy Safari Limited edition 2011. A nice pen but I have to get used to the grip.

Today I stumbled on 2 lamy Safari colors I can't place. One is I think a Savanna Green one, don't know what generation, the other is an orange one, not sure if it's the terracotta one.

Does anybody know which pens these are and what they are worth paying for? I think they are older models so do the new converters fit in these pens?

Hi Ellen,

Welcome back to fountain pens, and yes the textured green and orange are among the earliest colors, and highly desired.

The grip was designed to aid, so hopefully it will become comfortable for you. Even though the pink is 2011, it's also becoming more difficult to find. Though Safari is considered "just a school pen" to many, it's also a reliable pen with loads of charm to others. : )

Here in The Netherlands, the pink is still for sale, I paid €18,50 for the pen at Le Couronne du Comte webshop.

I think it's not a highly valued pen here in the Netherlands. Can't imagine a lot of people paying more than €€ 30 for a lamy Safari pen but perhaps I'm totally wrong about this.

There's an orange limited edition on marktplaats.nl and people won't go higher than €19,=

Children have to write with a fountain pen in school here but most of them stop using them when they get to the age of 11/12 years. My youngest daugter still likes to use one, she is almost 12 years old. She still uses the Lamy ABC in school although I offered her a lamy safari or a lamy Nexx M. She likes her old ABC Lamy a lot. She uses the Lamy Nexx at home though for homework.

Hang on to your orange and green! I cheerfully refer to the them as terra/vanna (terracotta orange/savannah green).

You have the basis for a fun collection.

And gather up all the extra's you can find. You may fund your daughters future education if you find a boat load :)

All the best.

Hi~ I'm newbie to this forum, and i also a Lamy lover~ ^_^

Is that anyone know about Safari series fountain pen black body with red clip? Is this exist? Thanks~

There is a shiny black with red clip in Lamy Joy the calligraphy set.

Otherwise I do not recall a standard issue black with red Safari.

If you scroll above and look at photos, there is a Charcoal with red clip, that were available in Japan on a very limited run.

See discussion # 464.

Hi there - Welcome to the forum! To my knowledge there never was an international release of Shiny Black with a Red Clip, however Eslite Department store in Taipei, Taiwan, commissioned 500 of this colour combination in 2010/11 as fountain pens and only with fine nibs. As you may know, Lamy is occasionally commissioned by large stores to do limited runs of at least 500 pens, such as the well known NK limited releases in Sweden (one of which sold on eBay for an amazing price in excess of US$400!).

Hope that helps!

I recently completed my Lamy Joy collection with the bottommost pen in the picture, one of the first Joys to come to market. Its endcap features a black dot. Does this look right, collectors? Any other Joy variants?

And a set of the NK Sweden variations described above, delivered today. Note the red dot end caps that differentiate these from the Rakuten/Japan variations. Yellow is the "new" yellow. Shiny black with red in last photo is a Safari/Joy frankenlamy.

It has a imprint GERMANY on the end of the barrel. That means it was produced after 1989. The pictures of the demonstrator with imprint "W.GERMANY" can be found from kmpn's blog

Then some pictures of Savanna and Terracotta that I have, but I still don't have fountain pen of them, just have some parts :((

I wonder why the Safari demonstrator gets a yellowish coloration over time, while the Vista doesn't?

Has anyone here ever had the experience of a Vista turning yellow?

@bhavini If I were you I would not buy a dip-pen. They don't replicate the flow characteristics of fountain pens, and they will work well with some inks that will clog fountain pens. Instead of a dip-pen, I would buy a relatively-inexpensive pen that is easy to clean. E.g. a Parker Frontier and a converter for it. Its nib/feed-unit can be unscrewed from the pen, so cleaning it is very very easy.
    • finzi 18 Apr 21:44
@bhavini I ordered a Sailor Hocoro today, to use for testing. I’ll let you know what it’s like. You can get different nib sizes for it, so maybe more versatile than a glass dip pen.
    • Claes 17 Apr 8:19

    • Penguincollector 15 Apr 22:48
@bhavini, I really like the Sailor Hocoro dip pen. It’s inexpensive, easy to clean, and if you get one with a nib that has a feed, you can get quite a few lines of writing before you have to dip again. I have a fude nib, which I use for swatching and line variation while writing.

What's a relatively cheap tool for a newbie to use to try out new inks, without inking up a pen? I've a bunch of ink samples on their way but I just want to play around with them before I decide on which ones I want to buy more of for writing. I've never used anything except a fountain pen to write with ink before.
    • Penguincollector 15 Apr 17:03
Hello @Jeffrey Sher, pen club information can be found in the Pen Clubs, Meetings, and Events sub forum. If you use Google site search you can find information specific to Israel.

It's gonna end where 1929 left us: a world war, shambles, and 'growth by rebuilding'. That's the conservative view of cycling history --and the big plan. Even if our generations perish.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:49
Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket. Good luck with that.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:33
      Guess who loses
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:30
In Europe, the only (truly) American produced brand is Esterbrook AFAIK. Tariffs will make Esterbrook products compete on the same level as some high-end European brands (let's say Aurora), while clearly the product is manufactured to compete on a much lower price level.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:24
So let's say you want to buy a Montblanc or whatever. You pay the current tariff on top of the usual price, unless your local distributor is willing to absorb (some) of the difference
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:20
Tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter.
    • TheQuillDeal 10 Apr 2:44
Can anyone explain how the tariff war will affect fountain pen prices??
    • Penguincollector 30 Mar 15:07

    • lamarax 2 Mar 20:38
Oh well. In case of failure you can always wring the paper to have a nice -albeit somewhat stale- cup of coffee back.
    • T.D. Rabbit 2 Mar 10:20
@Astronymus I could use cornstarch... Or i could distill it and make it very concentrated.
    • T.D. Rabbit 2 Mar 10:20
@lamarax That's what I used! (In reply to black coffee).. But the milk might not be good at all for paper.

Cappuccino should work. Frothy milk also helps to lubricate the nib. But it has to be made by a barista.

No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎
    • FineFinerFinest 21 Oct 4:27

@Seney724. The pen was recently disassembled and cleaned, but the nib and feed were not properly inserted into the holder. I'm in Maryland.
    • Diablo 26 Aug 21:32
@Seney724. The nib section needs to be adjusted properly.

Hello, could someone recommend a reliable venue: on line or brick and mortar in Fairfax, VA or Long Island, NY to purchase the soft parts and a converter to restore my dad's Sheaffer Legacy? please. Thanks a mill.

Back to FPN after 14 years. First thing I noticed is that I could not see a FS forum. What has changed? 🤔

Hello! Is there a thread anywhere 'round here where one can post self-composed poetry? If not, would it be alright if I made one? I searched on google, but to no avail...

I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄

Recently was lucky enough to buy a pristine example of the CF crocodile ball with the gold plating. Then of course I faced the same problem we all have over the years ,of trying to find e refill. Fortunately I discovered one here in the U.K. I wonder if there are other sources which exist in other countries, by the way they were not cheap pen
