Lamy Safari Colours

heard that there may be a purple Al-star later this year...

Is the dark purple Al-star a limited edition or a regular production color?

it's a "special edition"...

there are cases that special editions become regular production later,

e.g. the shiny black and white safari.

The purple Al-Star (model 29) is now regular production. The coffee brown version (model 22) has now ceased production so was a special edition for 2010.

Thanks to both of you. I didn't see purple on the LamyUSA site so I wasn't sure. I decided I liked the color enough to buy one now instead of waiting regardless of production status.

I've not been interested in those editions created for special markets and paid for by department stores or gps. that will spring for the bucks & then charge 2-3- market value. Only Lamy.de, rank and file, reg. issues concern me. All the others are made from parts already in their color palate. I can create them with my own pens..as one offs, if I so desire...which I don't. Pro signature..is still a plain Al-Star silver....with a scribbly silk screen. The d/c'd black clips on regular issues, except for charcoal ... r legitimate in my view. Joy's with pink clip and barrel tab r also interesting...now really hard to come by.Most interesting are the feed differences in the early pens as they perfected flow issues. These pens r so fun to use...with all the nib variants. You can do lots of cool hands with them, too.You get surprising effects with different co.'s ink....to boot.No affiliations.

is the charcoal/black pen with silver (non-black) clip a fake then? that's what's being sold on amazon

Charcoal has always had a black clip and nib since it was first intro'd into the market. My guess is that ? decided to unload a pen with replaced clip. If it has a silver nib to boot...& if the price is right...you might consider it. My choice, I'd pass. Goto the Lamy.de site...that should unlock the mystery. Just checked the site...the charcoal has a black nib and clip.

A shiny black Safari with a silver chrome clip is legit.

Charcoal Safari is supposed to have a black chrome clip.

I think the Lamy Safari looks very nice. I especially like the blue one and the blue one with the red clip.

My favorite, although I've never seen one in person and it's been discontinued, is the orange one and the lime. I've seen them on you-who-bay, but they're way out of my budget.

Tee hee. Your Lime is on its way to you, USMCMom.

Why, sometimes I'd like to take a switchblade and a peppermint and a Cadillac and throw it all in a fire.

I am sure most of you are aware - Charcoal is now the only safari that comes with black nib and clip.

Red, blue and yellow are now all shipping with chrome clip and nib.

My orange lamy safari came with a black nib but that might because I specifically asked for an EF nib.

They extended the production as a special edition but as far as I know, not currently in production.

Thanks for all the updates, I’m happy to see this thread is still alive.

I was "out of the business" (meaning not much interested in FPs anymore) for about two years, so I have kind of lost track of all the different Safaris. Besides, the shape of the section doesn’t really match the way I hold my pen, so I’m mostly using my Waterman Kultur (which I love) – it has also a better ink flow than the standard Lamy feed.

There are some great Safari colours around now, but buying more of them doesn’t make any sense for me if I don’t write with them. :)

Best regards

Hans-Peter

  • 2 weeks later...

The black clip/nib models were 2010 and earlier.Gray was earlier 2004-5 ,I think. Lamy was selling gray parts..so u could have tinkered a gray together at component pricing up until late 2010 when their stock dried up.. Eveything is chrome/silver except charcoal...onward. If u find a pen orange, pink, lime...they were also only chrome/silver. Early white had black clip and nib. Current white and black are chrome/ silver as is the Vista. The old "demo" clear had black theme. Red clips were the lt. Fr. Blue and the Flame. There is/was one exception. There is/ was a bright yellow 2011 with a black clip/ nib . Might have been a transition pen to use up old parts...or might have been a test for the new brighter yellow. Anywhat ,I have one at old pricing. Haven't seen another since. The big Q is...will there be a new color for 2011 or 2012?
