To add, when using a converter, fill the section to the brim, maybe 2 loads. Following the second load hold the pen nib up and screw the piston in until you see ink appear at the breather hole at which point screw it back out a couple of turns. This works for me.

Your air in the cartridge seemed spot on! Thought you're advice was sage and experienced

Well, experienced anyway. Nothing like holding a freshly loaded pen over your lap or desk only to have the entire contents drizzle back out before you find something to catch the ink or even realize what's happening. :bonk:

 

Afterwards, opening it up only to find the cart or convertor wasn't seated, creating your new fashion statement/unpaid overtime situation.

 

Not that it's ever happened to me. Often. :embarrassed_smile:

Indeed, I have never found myself in which a situation with a Kaweco AL sport unscrewed in my pocket leaving a large stain of WM FB ink all over my favorite blue shirt. It may have also happened with a JH perle noir cartridge which didn't come out quite as nicely .
