Just when I thought I was finished buying purple inks...this stuff looks good enough to drink straight! Thanks for your review.

Oh, dear ... what have you done!!! I knew I shouldn't have looked!! Now, you've shown me that I "need" Diamine Grape! :vbg:

Just checked a color swab for Diamine Grape .... sure looks different than what you've shown. I like what you've shown a LOT better than the color swab! The swab looked kind of dusky, if that makes sense.

I've had a hard time finding a real purple ... a nice rich purple. All I've ever found were the dusky purples, or those that are more on the pink or magenta side. I want what we used to call a "royal" purple.

How about Noodler's Le Coleur Royale?

So hard to really tell by looking at swabs of color. Guess I'll have to order a few samples. Noodler's Le Coleur Royale looks like it may be one of the samples I try out. Thank you.

While using this ink a few weeks now (due to a self inflicted policy to use up inks I like less first) I noticed it gets redder the next day. Did anyone else notice the same "transition"?

Thank you for this review.

From what I see on my monitor it looks exactly the same as Akkerman #13 Simplisties Violet. Is there someone who owns both and can confirm this?

Regards,

Halid

Not tried the Akkerman, but have heard rumours that Diamine is the company supplying these inks. If this is the case, it is likely to be a Syrah clone or similar, something that is already in production, unlike Grape, which hits the market in a couple of weeks.

Syrah definitly does not like Akkerman Simplistisch Violet. Although Diamine is the most likely producer of Akkerman inks, there is not always a 1:1 match.

Anyway I defintely going to try a sample of this ink. I like purples.

BTW How does it compare against Iroshizuku Murasaki-shikibu (if you have it)? Grape seems a bit darker and redder on my screen.

Nice review. Thanks! Also great comparisons. Any ink which ever gets mentioned as a reminiscence of aubergine gets my vote. I thought I would like the heck out of Eclipse but that turned out to be blacker than I thought (by no means the end of the world). That's likely due to the BB nib in a wet M900.

reval - don't have the Murasaki, sorry. I've given up buying iroshi because of the ridiculous price hike a couple yrs back, when Pilot decided to make Iroshi their equivalent of boutique ink, and also because of the crazy import duties here in the UK. I'd be happy to exchange samples with you though!PM me if you are interested.

lapis - I know what you mean about Eclipse. It built my hopes up like that, too. I still like it, but it really is black with the merest hint of purple, in a good light with a prevailing wind! Grape, however, should suit you down to the ground.

Hmmm ... I thought I saw Diamine Grape offered at Goulet's. Wait ... I know I did, because that was the color swab I looked at and saw the difference in what was posted in the review and really liked what I saw in the review.

Brian shows himself swabbing up the five new Diamines for the June release on his blog. He deals with the Sargasso Sea, Misty Blue, Grape, Ochre and Peach Haze.

Look for the "Write Now 5/17/12" episode. You will have to skip about in the first 15 minutes because it is unedited and the camera is on his face not his hands but they are all in there.

Peach Haze : 04:30

Ochre : 06:30

Grape : 09:30

Misty Blue : 11:35

Sargasso Sea : 15:15

Is there a "whistles innocently" emoticon? I presume you saw him comparing the colour swabs on the first set of five...
