And when will you reveal the true meaning of this exercise?

GClef :

You still have a bit to go, to match this effort which was written at a slope of 74 degrees from the vertical :P

I wrote mine at around 270 degrees to the vertical. In fact I wrote it so slanted that I eventually peaked at around 380-400 degrees....

Never mind the fact that I may have cheated by tilting the paper! (Or rotating it...)

Wait, that's part of the exercise, rotating the paper so that you pretty much write up and away from you - if you're a righty. I guess if you're a lefty, you'd be writing down, toward your body?

If you're a lefty and doing the palmer style you'd still be writing the same way a righty does which is "up up and away". Only an overhand hook would write differently, and they'd be pulling it up. You'd only write it down, towards your body if you're trying to write at greater than 90º to the vertical.

Whoops. Double post.

We should put a delete button somewhere, shouldn't we...

Wouldn't that be horizontal and backwards?

I like yer "Palmer-like" script. I've only recently discovered the whole flex thing and the biggest problem for a flex noob is where to apply it. Seems all downstrokes would be the simplest rule, but I'm not so sure, all the time. I have decent 3rd grade cursive, but a flex nib makes me slow it down and actually care about how it looks, how to do it better, a win-win thing. So, I reply here, if only to tag yer post and make it easier to look up yer examples, which are appreciated. Oh! ....it also has me doing that little follow-back-down-the-upstroke thingie in miniscule r's and s's, again, something I abandoned waaay back in the 4th grade. ;)

Please excuse my handwriting. I just got out of the gym and my fine motor skills are shot so my lines are shakey.

Dude, serious?! That's freakin awesome!

I remember Richard Binder saying to my lefty daughter, who was like 12 at the time, the same thing about lefties having the natural slope ideal for Spencerian, if she'd learn under writing. Unfortunately, she's stuck with over writing. (Haven't had the time to beat her lately cause of the wedding invites.)
