GClef,

Much as I do not understand your decision to abandon flex writing altogether - if I could find a vintage flex pen I could afford I would be delighted, but my budget is quite tight, so I wait - I hope you are happy with it in the long run (if you decide to sell off your pens hold on to your favorite 2 or 3 for special occasions).

The principal reason for this post, however, is to thank you for your posts to date. The elegance of your flex writing lifted even your most pedestrian post to a higher level and brightened my day. I will miss them, but I suppose all good things must come to an end at some point.

Gratefully,

Brian

Andy, you called dibs on everything. (Petulant face.)

(Ha ha ha.) A couple of those pens inspired flex lust even in me. That last Sheaffer? *Swoon*

LOL, Lisa, that bit of "pen Porn" inspired lust in most of us, I'm sure

Ahh yes the elusive FX3 Sheaffer Snorkel...

But seriously, since you no longer care for flex, I'll send you a *case* of Bic Crystals with the 1.6mm and a hand full of ten-penny nails for that Conklin!

I'll even throw in a couple of Parker Jotters for when you're feeling 'dressy' !

And I love GClef's handwriting, with or without flex. Don't know if I have the patience to develop beautiful, flowy writing like that, but I do like looking at it.

After a brief flirtation with flexible-nibbed FPs, I came to an accommodation: I fill nails and dip flexies; nails point forward, flexies point right. (If I ever get my dip edged pens out of mothballs, I'll have to write some new rules.)

Go GClef! (I'm more of an F Clef kind of guy.)

The liberty of the press is indeed essential to the nature of a free state; but this consists in laying no previous restraints upon publications, and not in freedom from censure for criminal matter when published. Every freeman has an undoubted right to lay what sentiments he pleases before the public; to forbid this, is to destroy the freedom of the press; but if he publishes what is improper, mischievous or illegal, he must take the consequence of his own temerity. This says it all for me. Like many, I thought I'd really like using a flex nib, but it just didn't work out for me. Flex is for people with attractive handwriting to begin with, and that sure as hell isn't me. But I do get some line variation in and I find that I have more satisfaction using firmer and dryer nibs than wetter and softer/flexier nibs. I like the aspect of the line variation where the flow doesn't seem to keep up with the stroke speed or direction creating the needle thin and almost transparent shaded line. Given the necessary wetness of flex nibs, every aspect of the stroke is just too bold for my taste. Maybe I'm all wet, but that's how I see it.
