I've just got to find my scanner and hook it up to my new computer! GClef: A split pensonality can be such a burden - have you thought about getting some professional help from a nibmeister?

I remember that pen. Boy it came out NICE!

Yep Syd traded nibs with me so I could have a Factory Signature Stub in my Wahl Rosewood Signature.

Leaving the difficulty issue aside, i think writing with marked line variation would look affected in my work place. I would have no problem with that look for personal correspondence.

@GClef:

Seven seconds is a common default for sniping programs (I think), based on the shortest time before close to automatically get a bid in. The winner probably had a lot more behind that, anyway.

As for the pen, I tried to look up the listing but couldn't find it. However, judging on the photo, I've got a Wahl gold-filled ringtop which I bought last year and did a bit of restoration with a nib that performs every bit like the one in the listing. Set me back about $40.00, plus the cost of a sac and some elbow grease. This guy has nice pens, absolutely, but he has built up a clientele that will pay premium for a perceived magic. If you are into writing, you can find it by lifting the tent flap and looking at some of the other areas of the circus...

Can anyone really be completely over flex?

The thing is you don't know what the guy's max bid was either. It just *seems* like a measly forty cents or whatever.

Very true...the winning bidder could've had an astronomical max bid that would've ensured he got it....but, still...to SEE that you lost the pen over 40 measly cents!

Indeed. I feel your pain... I always feel like, "well.... **I** would have paid FORTY CENTS more for it..."

I think the trick with eBay is to (try to) decide 'in a vacuum' what the pen is worth to you.

That's where I've evolved to with my eBay bidding. I decide what my max price is and am always out bid. But, it works sometimes. I will have waiting for me at home today a #15 Waterman eyedropper that I paid less than $50 for including shipping. I asked the seller what was stamped on the bottom of the barrel, but he never updated the info on the auction, so nobody but me (theoretically) knew that. I find out if it was a sweet deal in a couple of hours!

I've had that feeling in the past. What has worked for me, and allows me to feel the tables have been leveled, is to do what is suggested: tell myself in advance precisely how much I would pay for that pen, as if I saw it in a store. If the price is too high, I simply wouldn't buy it. What makes it all feel ok are the many pens I've gotten for a price that is far below similar pens that people have paid way too much for. Patience is an underrated trait, and while not always easy to achieve, has it's rewards.
