I've used clear silicone greases labeled for plumbing and diving purposes on pens. All seem to have similar resistance to water and atmospheric exposure, with the level of viscosity being the primary mechanically detectable difference. I've used these on Sheaffer Snorkel / touchdown filling pens and modern fountain pens to lubricate and enhance the sealing of synthetic rubber and silicone o-rings in filling systems as well as section seals for ED pens. I also used them for -

The MSDS for Molykote 111 states "It is generally resistant to dilute acids and alkalines and to most aqueous solutions." I would take that as it should not have any issues with 99.99999% of fountain pen inks. -

The grease that I have used for over 15 years, and recommend is Down Corning Molykote 111, and no other. This is a silicone grease that is recommended for use on 0-rings and is designed to resist washing off. so it is less likely to wash off into your ink. It is a food grade silicone grease. -

The best lubricating grease that I have found (I use it for assembly of 3D printed items that need lubrication, for food contact items, and for piston fillers (or even barrel or cap threads that are squeaky) is Super Lube brand Silicon Lubricating Grease (PN 92003) A 3oz tube should last you a very long time (it does not take much). For piston fillers, I run a cotton swab around the cap of the grease tube, then around the inside of the barrel. Cycle the piston a couple of tim -

- Abhishek Gulshan 5 Sept 13:22@BillyB really sorry to hear about your father. Condolences and strength.
- b.barritt Today 19:44@kdnavrat. Yes I put up a little topic called Newbie to the World and have gotten responses there.
- xty 28 Aug 16:44It's been some time bit it looks like selling used pens is a thing of the past here - where might one go if one wanted to sell outside of eBay ?
- Yews 20 Aug 12:18Hello from Belgium. Not a collector, only have 13, but saw some posts about weclee pens, have one so was intrested.
- Daniel looking for advice 9 Aug 0:05I would like to understand how I can sell some vintage fountain pens
- Penguincollector 16 July 19:13If you were at the PNW pen show and left your new pen’s outer box behind, please PM me.
- Penguincollector 16 July 19:11If you were at the PNW pen show and were talking with me about a very sought after pen, please PM me. I have information for you. I will know who you are when you refer to your grail.
- sliceofann 16 July 3:44Looking for help to price my Namiki Yukari Goldfish Double Fountain Pen by Hyakusen Murata. I do not have papers or box currently still trying to find them. Pen has never been used and has been kept in a safe.
- emy 7 July 20:35Hey, Billy B - Teri M at Peyton Street Pens buys collections and may be able to help you out. The website is peytonstreetpens.com, and you can fill out the "contact us" form that's linked at the bottom of the front page, and she'll get back to you with more information on how to proceed.
- BillyB 5 July 16:40Hello. My father recently passed and has a large collection of fountain pens and collectables; I live in Texas and was looking for someone that could purchase the lot. I have not counted but would guess around 1500 to 2000 pens. If you're interested or know someone please let them know. Thanks
- MegChris 17 May 21:44On the issue of repairs. I swapped some Red Sox tix for a fancy Pilot, the model number not immediately available. Pen is in the office. Anywho, I tried tomrefill it and the internal mechanism, the plunger I think, ornscrew to creat suction, that part is rattling around loose and will not cooperate. Undoubtedly I dropped it or treated it harshly. I live in Massachusetts and I’d love to get it repaired.Does anyone have a suggestion?
- Mercian 15 May 15:27@LarryLogo: the best recommendation for repairers will depend upon where YOU are in the world. E.g. if you are France then a list of repairers in the USA will not be of much use to you. SO, please let us know where YOU are in the world - and, if you are in the USA, which State you live in.
- LarryLogo 14 May 16:05I have an Aurora with 14K nib that needs to be repaired or replaced. On estimate is $200; for that I can buy a new one. Any recommended repair facilities?
- finzi 11 May 18:04Got some cold salad potatoes leftover from yesterday and I do not have the motivation to prepare anything, so just heading for the leftover carbs…
- finzi 10 May 22:11I was quite restrained, I’m quite proud of myself. Haven’t shown much impulse control or restraint on the pen purchasing this year, so I need to redeem myself somehow…
- finzi 10 May 17:26Serious question: how much ice cream is too much ice cream for the adult I am supposed to be?
- lamarax 6 May 21:08@mah seriously; members @LizEF and @InesF are experts and might be able to direct you.
- lamarax 6 May 20:11I think people on the ISS are busy with other experiments atm 😉 (and I wouldn't trust the Romulans either)
- mah 2 May 7:44How can I date a text written with a regular and usually pen so that microscopic devices can date it back 6 years? It should be possible, and according to the site, I need the help of everyone in space to complete my research on radiation and pen ink in texts.
- bhavini 1 May 8:01@finzi thank you! and for your follow-up message too. The Sailor Hocoro is not in my budget, but I'm glad you had a good time!
- bhavini 1 May 8:00@Mercian thank you very much for your advice! Another unnecessary purchase avoided
- Guy M 25 Apr 18:03Hi, I am new here. Hello! Seriously affliced by impulse buying old pens. See my posts for latest follies.
- Mercian 19 Apr 20:51@bhavini If I were you I would not buy a dip-pen. They don't replicate the flow characteristics of fountain pens, and they will work well with some inks that will clog fountain pens. Instead of a dip-pen, I would buy a relatively-inexpensive pen that is easy to clean. E.g. a Parker Frontier and a converter for it. Its nib/feed-unit can be unscrewed from the pen, so cleaning it is very very easy.
- finzi 18 Apr 21:44@bhavini I ordered a Sailor Hocoro today, to use for testing. I’ll let you know what it’s like. You can get different nib sizes for it, so maybe more versatile than a glass dip pen.
- InkyProf 16 Apr 23:32@Jeffrey Sher it looks like this user used to be the organizer of the club https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/profile/8343-hj1/ perhaps you could send him a direct message, although his profile says he hasn't been on the site since 2021.
- Penguincollector 15 Apr 22:48@bhavini, I really like the Sailor Hocoro dip pen. It’s inexpensive, easy to clean, and if you get one with a nib that has a feed, you can get quite a few lines of writing before you have to dip again. I have a fude nib, which I use for swatching and line variation while writing.
- TheQuillDeal 15 Apr 18:58lamarax, thank you for a well-informed response! I've been worried that FountainPenHospital in NYC would suffer...
- bhavini 15 Apr 18:28What's a relatively cheap tool for a newbie to use to try out new inks, without inking up a pen? I've a bunch of ink samples on their way but I just want to play around with them before I decide on which ones I want to buy more of for writing. I've never used anything except a fountain pen to write with ink before.
- Penguincollector 15 Apr 17:03Hello @Jeffrey Sher, pen club information can be found in the Pen Clubs, Meetings, and Events sub forum. If you use Google site search you can find information specific to Israel.
- Jeffrey Sher 14 Apr 8:25Shalom just joined . I have been collection fountain pens for many years. I believe there is a club in Israel that meets monthly. please let me have details. .
- lamarax 11 Apr 0:58It's gonna end where 1929 left us: a world war, shambles, and 'growth by rebuilding'. That's the conservative view of cycling history --and the big plan. Even if our generations perish.
- lamarax 11 Apr 0:49Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket. Good luck with that.
- lamarax 11 Apr 0:30In Europe, the only (truly) American produced brand is Esterbrook AFAIK. Tariffs will make Esterbrook products compete on the same level as some high-end European brands (let's say Aurora), while clearly the product is manufactured to compete on a much lower price level.
- lamarax 11 Apr 0:24So let's say you want to buy a Montblanc or whatever. You pay the current tariff on top of the usual price, unless your local distributor is willing to absorb (some) of the difference
- lamarax 2 Mar 20:38Oh well. In case of failure you can always wring the paper to have a nice -albeit somewhat stale- cup of coffee back.
- T.D. Rabbit 2 Mar 10:20@Astronymus I could use cornstarch... Or i could distill it and make it very concentrated.
- T.D. Rabbit 2 Mar 10:20@lamarax That's what I used! (In reply to black coffee).. But the milk might not be good at all for paper.
- Gertrude F 20 Feb 17:58Sorry think I posted this in the wrong place. Used to be a user, just re-upped. Be kind. 😑
- Gertrude F 20 Feb 17:56Looking to sell huge lot of pretty much every Man 200 made - FP, BP, MP, one or two RBs. Does anyone have a suggestion for a bulk purhase house? Thanks - and hope this doesn't violate any rules.
- lamarax 17 Feb 18:05Cappuccino should work. Frothy milk also helps to lubricate the nib. But it has to be made by a barista.
- Astronymus 17 Feb 16:19YOu might need to thicken the coffee with something. I admit I have no idea with what. But I'm pretty sure it would work.
- stxrling 13 Jan 1:25Are there any threads or posts up yet about the California Pen Show in February, does anyone know?
- Just J 25 Dec 1:57@liauyat re editing profile: At forum page top, find the Search panel. Just above that you should see your user name with a tiny down arrow [🔽] alongside. Click that & scroll down to CONTENT, & under that, Profile. Click that, & edit 'til thy heart's content!
- liapuyat 12 Dec 12:20I can't seem to edit my profile, which is years out of date, because I've only returned to FPN again recently. How do you fix it?
- mattaw 5 Dec 14:25@lantanagal did you do anything to fix that? I get that page every time I try to go to edit my profile...
- Penguincollector 30 Nov 19:14Super excited to go check out the PDX Pen Bazaar today. I volunteered to help set up tables. It should be super fun, followed by Xmas tree shopping. 😁
