Dick, I meant that new carts are rarely full when I get them, there's an air bubble. So I don't think you should refill them all the way. Nice stub on the Pelikan.

~snip~

There are no markings on the pen. The ebay auctioneer I purchased it from (reputable) suggested that it was from the 1920s, and might be a peter pan(? or something of the like, alas I didn't save the description). It is an eyedropper pen, it holds less than .5mL of ink; I'm having difficulty measuring the precise ink capacity.

The Pelikan 200 above was advertised as an unused M200 with a medium nib. I'll give them this much, it is an M200. However, it actually has an Italic nib, and it spat out a bunch of black ink when I flushed it with water. It's a nice pen for a good price though, so I am keeping it. It just goes to show that when you visit the 'bay, be prepared for anything.

By the way, anybody heading to the Philadelphia Pen Show this weekend?

Visited a pen shop about an hour from our house this past weekend and chose my Christmas gift from my wife. I have asked a few questions on this forum in the past weeks about Conway Stewart, Pelikan and Mont Blanc and someone suggested I also look at Onoto pens. I thought I would probably come home with a CS Churchill, but was introduced to the Onoto, dipped a couple for writing tests and decided on the Magna Writer, a limited edition pen (53/100) that is completely sold out now. (The Onoto blotter background is a bit misleading - the pen is a Manga Writer, not a Magna) I love the traditional look based on the design of the 1937 Magna and the 18 ct gold nib that is soooo smooth. It lays down a wonderfully wet line too. I have a number of modest pens but this is my first serious writer. I could have come home with a pen from each maker but then I would have had to liquidate my woodworking tools!!

I believe the pen shop I visited is the only retailer selling Onoto pens in Canada - unfortunate really. I have a suspicion the visit convinced me there is a Pelikan M800 or M1000 in my future too.

Have already learned a great deal about fountain pens in a few weeks of reading on this forum thanks to all of you.

revdrjaydwright, beautiful stub writing! A custom stub has been on my wishlist for a long time, maybe I should finally get one?

But, right now, I am enjoying my Realo:

What ink did you use here? I'm looking for a nice blue-black, something like this--not with the greenish tint of Noodler's Navy or Blue-Black; like BBH or BBK, but without the spreading/feathering/smell.

@nibblies

Congrats on the Onoto! She's a beautiful pen. i've been intrigued by Onoto. I'll have to try one once I get around to purchasing something like that.

There's a great tranquility and at the same time sophistication with blue-black inks. Don't be afraid to 'own' being a blue-black guy only. :)

I say that, and I've just now branched out to other colors. Nevertheless, I still love the smooth look of a good blue-black.
