Charlie is a Betta fish and they typically don't swim around like most fish. They sort of lay in one spot. They have both lungs and gills (can't think of a better way to describe it), and surface to breath pretty often. Think of the Dr. Seuss character "Fish", curled up and sitting on his butt in his bowl.

 

It's hard to describe his personality. I bought him as a little baby, only about 3/4 of an inch long and brown/grey with stripes. I had no intention of buying a fish that day, but walked past the end display in the pet store (there to buy food for my dog). There were baby Bettas in containers, stacked on each other, one little fish in each one. All but Charlie ignored me when I stopped to look at them. He was flying all over his container, and kept coming up to the plastic, like he was trying to get my attention. The rest is history!

 

By the way, his favorite pen turns out to be the same as mine. Wait for it. Wait. A vintage Waterman with a wet noodle nib!

Breathe. Take one step at a time. Don't sweat the small stuff. You're not getting older, you are only moving through time. Be calm and positive.

Very nice! Homer looks excited about the Stormy Grey! A shame when he finds out they don't come with doughnuts. :D

I will be glad to run for doughnuts the minute my bottle of Stormy Grey comes in! In the meantime, I'm grading midterms exams today with J. Herbin "Rose Tendresse." Less shocking and violent than the usual "China Town Red" that I usually use. ;)

For those of you who are "paper purists", here's a little trick I learned taking a calligraphy class in the last century. I used a thin sock that had lost it's partner in a horrible dryer accident and was inconsolable living the rest of it's life alone. Cut the heel and toes off and you will never get oil or any other unwanted residue on your paper again. My thumb is where the heel was, my fingers where the toe was.

What a novel idea, thank you for sharing this. This is especially handy in summer when hands tend to be a bit clammy. I try to use a sheet of paper under my hand, that is, when I remember. This is even better.
