Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us!

I've been wanting for years to get my hands on a pen like this and it just arrived today in the mail. It is a Custom "51" Vespel made in Santa Fe by Ralph Prather. He fabricates by hand every single part of the pen other than the original nib and cap, including the filling unit. This one is made with Vespel, a unique material from DuPont. The nib is a BBB stub, just to my liking.

Amazing pen, David! With a really droolworthy nib!

I love the pen porn... but wow... how did you do IT so small?

Is there a knack to macro phone pics? Some lens or angle trick?

Cheers, Fox Point

5 lines in 4 centimeters! Wow, that's cool!

There are a few tricks.

I ground my own nib which allowed me to try, grind, try, grind, try, etc.

Use a dry ink like Pelikan 4001 Black, so feathering (which happens just at smaller and smaller levels) is kept down.

Good paper.

I also adjusted the nib to slow the ink flow which helps to make a thinner line.

write fast, and use the lightest touch possible.

AND practice.

Finalist..do you write with a magnifying glass?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

For a while my affinity for medium nib has grown intense, though I am broad nib person primarily to hide my chicken scrawl. I love B for it is so forgiving.

So today, an old Waterman Carene, but not so faint heart to dare a pink !

I am a little disappointed - the Diamine Pink is not that pink, may be,looking at me its blushing !!

I use a loop and I do that Attika89 finger dance thing. :) A magnifying glass would be easier. My loop is one of those cube framed fold up deals, so I have to write within the square base of it.

No, there is nothing on the barrel. Just the nib is identified. But the pen is small and similar in pattern. Maybe a cheap pen with a PARCO nib which all seem to be flexy and wet.

Only the nib is worth anything i guess and i would rather place it in another pen if i dared take it out.
