I popped into an antique store yesterday to look at a painting which caught my eye. I bought two pens.

 

One was a seemingly never-used Parker 95. I'd never even heard of the Parker 95 before.

Smart, very slim ... very 80s/90s.

 

I swapped out the virgin converter (in case I ever decide to give this as a gift or something) for one from a Parker 45, filled it up (Private Reserve D.C. Supershow Blue, for those who keep track), and took it to work today.

The M nib is hard as nail and lays down an nice, smooth line. But boy is it skinny. Posts super firmly. It's handsome without being flash - the sort of thing which wouldn't attract too much attention at a meeting.

 

And did I mention that it's sorta skinny?

There is a theory. Some disoriented economists think that the 'length of the skirt' is inversely proportional to health of the economy : when the economy is robust, its party time, and the skirt is short. Economy is weak : skirt is long. Sounds weird ? Yes.

 

During the cascading effect of Sep 2008 Lehman Brothers collapse, I had purchased this Aurora Talentum in an airport duty free shop ... at an attractive discount from an attractive sales girl at he counter...needless to say with a looong skirt.

A small grouping by some standards, and a bit greater in number than would be my preference, but I find that I can't always stop myself. That said, it is a great collection in my opinion and I love all these pens.

FP189, that's an interesting pen, cool that you ground it yourself. I'm a huge fan of stubs and italics.

I've been wanting for years to get my hands on a pen like this and it just arrived today in the mail. It is a Custom "51" Vespel made in Santa Fe by Ralph Prather. He fabricates by hand every single part of the pen other than the original nib and cap, including the filling unit. This one is made with Vespel, a unique material from DuPont. The nib is a BBB stub, just to my liking.

The China Blue and the Akkerman Indigo both has sheen on this paper, but the most surprising was the Scabiosa with some silver outlines.
