Uncle Red, sweet music nib! What is that pen?

And when I wrote "humbed" above, I really meant "humped". I hate it when my analog spell checker doesn't work properly.

DC, it's a no name pen. The lever stands proud, there are scratches on the barrel and cap. On the clip it says "Made in USA". I wonder if it's a franken pen since the section and barrel feel different and there's a mold seem on the section but not the barrel. The brass ring between the barrel and section friction fits to the cap.

The nib is marked "Warranted 14 car 1st" there's a lot of tipping material left.

These no names can be more fascinating than the name brands.

Nice new Sheaffer. Which size is that.

Eeyvind, lots of nice inks out there to try. I'm surprised the golden sheen comes out on cheap paper. Lots of nice modern pens out there too.

I've been eyeing the 149s, especially with an OB nib. Is it ginormous?

Uncle Red, for some reason the tines are just split a little far apart. I asked Danny Fudge to make it a wet writer when he restored it for me, but I think it is a little too wet now. I'll take a close-up pic later tonight and post.

Hi Rev, yes, the 149 is big, and it feels great in the hand, a wonderful combination of size, heft and balance. To give you a size comparison with other MBs, here are some pics of five different models. From left to right (except the last picture, where the lineup is in reverse order), I have:

Montblanc 234½ G, 14C BB nib (c. 1950)

Montblanc Meisterstück 136 Transitional, two-toned alloy M nib (1947)

Montblanc 14, OBB nib (1960s)*

Montblanc Meisterstück 146, 14k B nib (c. 1970s)

Montblanc Meisterstück 149, 18k OB nib (1990s)*

Please don't abuse me for the sorry photos - I had very little time, didn't wipe the pens off, yada yada.

This one is lined up at the top of each pen to show overall size comparison.

Lined up at the base of each pen, with caps off.

Lined up at the top of each section to show nib size comparison (except the 14, which doesn't have an ordinary section).

It's called Montblanc SlimLine. C/c pen (but you probably know that already). According to fountainpen.de it's from the '70's.

Very nice set of pens, Ms. Madding. That Montblanc is extraordinary. Surprised you don't count that Ripple among your favourites. But maybe I'm biased.

Congrats on the new pen Jay, that's a nice gift.

Adami, welcome to FPN and the group. That's a good set of first pens and look at my handwiting before you apologise.

Nice pens Saskia, welcome back. Did you get to the DC show?

Ooooooo ... I love that Stipula!! I did actually get to the DC show, and I got a bunch of stuff I adore, including the Parker 51 with 1.3 minuskin nib and the vintage aurora optima pictures above. I also got a 1.1 minuskin stub on a brown striated Sheaffer valiant. :D

And I really do love that ripple. I told someone just recently that it might be my favourite pen I own. However, I am obsessed with flex nibs lately, and the two pens in "my favs" pictures both have semi flex nibs! :)

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!
