And I don't know why the quotes don't show your photos. Where are you uploading them?

I go into the "advanced mode" and upload photos straight from my computer into the message. I have also done it before by uploading them on a webpage and then pasting the address - does that work better? How do others do it please?

Dcpritch, thank you. I enjoy scripting and improving it, so I am glad you like my work. ALL the pens you post here are gorgeous! Surely you must have at least an ugly little duckling?

I took my notes in class with my M200 with Warranted Music nib today. The ink is Diamine Soft Mint. I feel like I'm finally getting a hang of the nib. I really like how this looks.

Coming along nicely! I like the ink too.

Seems to go from fine to broad (double broad?) with just a little pressure. This is my third vintage Waterman, and the flex is great in all three! Or did you mean how much did it cost? I found it on eBay --the gold ring around the barrel really caught my eye!-- , and ended up paying around $140 for it.

As for the writing, it's a combination of having practiced a little Spencerian script, along with the kind of nib that that writing was made for.

:unsure:

~~~~~~~~~~~~
I meant the pressure but thanks for the other information, now I know it could be in my future once I save a bit and discard a few oldies. I asked because I have a Namiki Falcon and it is very difficult to flex even a bit - I know it is not a full flex, just a springy one- and I cannot get the hang of it, so I think it will just be a fine nib through-through unless I spend money on it which I can't do.
What would you say is the trick of pressure? How to apply it and let go best trick? How to hold the pen? I have heard of having the slit at the same angle of teh letters> Cannot get this idea in my mind. And then, where to find a sample of Spencerian or better, book with exercises?
Hope I am not asking too many questions, FPNer!
Try holding your pen like this (post #3). Position your paper at an angle so your downstroke is pointing straight at your chest, and pull the pen towards yourself, applying pressure as you go. This video illustrates how to apply pressure (it's Engrosser's Script, but the technique can be used elsewhere).
Many Spencerian resources (including books written by the Spencer Brothers) can be found FREE on the IAMPETH website. It shouldn't be too difficult to learn, you just need to know the letter formation rules, practice the strokes, go slow and let the muscle memory form.
I would say that a dip nib and an oblique holder would make writing the shaded lines at the correct angle much easier, but you can start with the Falcon - the fine nib should be good for practicing the basic letterforms and you can add the shading when you feel comfortable.
:wub: Wow!
And because its me, here are some sheen pictures...
Welcome to the dip pen club :) ! Lovely handwriting - I can see you are enjoying it. The Gillott 303 is a little scratchy and picky about paper, just needs a little getting used to.
Love the sheen of the Yama-dori - I don't have any particularly sheeny ink so I have to cheat with gold bits -
Really Oldtimer, an app that imitates calligraphy?? What's it called? (oops, just seen you answered above, I'll go check it out).
Thank you again Halloween. I learned Copperplate using an oblique dip nib and until recently thought it could only be done that way… until I discovered vintage flex nibs! What a joy. I still really enjoy dip nibs but the ease of use of a fountain pen with flex nib as well as being transportable is just wonderful.
It is true though that when you really want the elegant contrast of VERY fine lines with graceful widths, you can't beat a dip nib… although the thin lines with my 52 ½ are pretty fine!
2nd sample with Waterman 52 ½ fountain pen
3rd sample with Waterman 52 fountain pen
Thank you Carretera18… and I wonder why my photos don't show up when someone quotes my post…??
Does your Waterman 52 1/2 rebound (from flex to thinnest line) quickly? I have got an Eversharp flex nib, it doesn't really come back quick enough for me, makes forming clean lower turns quite difficult.
That's from an app?!?! When I compare characters they look different. For example there are several different "y", 't", etc, so I never would have guessed that's an app. Script typefaces in font sets are usually too identical and therefore easy to spot as a typeface. Well, I still really like it! :lol:
It is not a ready made font, you write with a stylus with your own handwriting using a "pen" that resembles a fountain pen. It is a writing App to take notes or write a book if you wish. By hand. Like a notebook.
Wow there are some beautiful pens and handwriting on this thread! The gold sheen is so beautiful, as well as the beautiful dog Parker.
Here are my pens, a beloved Pelikan 600 and my new unpolished shu Nakaya.
Love the Nakaya! I finally get to see a bunch in person at the SF Pen show. It will be on that day that I decide on my grail pen! Lol. ...then a year of saving begins. Or considering a Danitrio. ;)
Thank you Carretera, I'll try doing it that way instead. Definitely don't think I'm worthy of tributes but it sounds nice! :-)
Your calligraphy is beautiful!
Tringle, thank you, and if you have advice on how to smooth out the nib of my Waterman 52, I'd love to give it a go. It think one tine was bent just fractionally and I've tried to gently put them back inline and I think it's better now but not perfect. I'm really worried that if I try to smooth it out, I'll loose some of the fineness… Can you advise?
I also find this thorough article on smoothing nibs so will go read that too (http://www.nibs.com/Article6.html)
And here is today's pen:
(Ignore what I say on the first line: it IS a German make, it says so on the nib!)
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ooyQyfW3FyY/U7-5CnQ7ZEI/AAAAAAAAEnk/7LipyPYu-2E/s1600/SDC10282.jpg
I like the colour better when used with a dip nib instead of the fountain pen, it is darker and slightly more shaded (only slightly!).
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-W2fuVWLbfr0/U7-5CCz66NI/AAAAAAAAEng/IE7EHGOfrhY/s1600/SDC10283.jpg
This Online pen is small and you need to put the cap on the end to give it enough length when writing but it's a nice little pen to carry around when travelling. It has a smooth nib that's nice to write with.
The 52 ½ is great and has nice rebound. I also have an Eversharp flex nib but I've just about given up on it, not enough flex! And the "thins" are just not thin enough. Perhaps I'll get it out now and write a sample. I've not used it for some time but I was disappointed in it when I first got it.
Just received that indian handmade ebonite pen from the postman.
It left India filled with blue ink and arrived in Belgium covered with it .....
Ooo, what's the app . . . ? :)
I re-checked and it was made with INKredible App. As you may see i had several apps that can simulate the FP writing before I found this sit and started fueling my interest on real fountain pens. Although I was mistaken in the previous information, I think both Apps (Notes Plus) can simulate FP writing well, but INKRedible does it better and is a simpler app.
How awful! Why would anyone ship a pen with ink in it? Now that you've had a chance to clean it, does the pen work nicely for you
?
Yes, no problem ...Even if the nib is a little bit hard, but what else would you expect from a 5 $ pen (including P&P) ....
Depeche mode is one of my favourite bands when I was young. Thanks to remember me the "shake de disease" song and Parker look like a very nice guy!
