Love the little Welsh. They really had some spectacular celluloid patterns.

How can you tell when you're out of invisible ink?

Looks like I need an ink with a little more butterscotch color - any good ideas?

Troy, glad I could enable you with another ink purchase.

Amberlea, does the nib on this Welsh qualify it for "ugly" status?

I choose the faber Castell Graf Intuition and the Visconti Homo Sapiens Lava ......

(what I meant was that at around 10pm I decided I should go to that oral exam the next day...I didn't give too much time for myself to study, but I had to try it. And I had an other exam that day as well)

I have just gotten a new Waterman Ideal 3V (vest-pocket sized?) with a very flexible nib. Unposted, it's too small to fit in my hand, but with the cap posted, it works moderately well. It still feels just a bit too tiny. But the nib is quite fun --it's my first true full-flex nib! [i have J. Herbin's "Poussière de Lune" ink in it right now...]

I use a Waterman 3V (yes, the "V" indicates vest size) for my flex art ink reviews. For a mite of a pen, that raging #2 Waterman nib is a flex monster! I have considered putting the nib into a custom pen someday, but am worried that would take some of the fun away from using this fantastic nib.

Just lost my Esterbrook. Used it to write "return to sender" on an envevelop while at the mailboxes. I thought I put it in my purse... Or did it go under the car seat? Rode around the block, 5 min later I am home and look for it and I didn't find it. I have looked everywhere in the house. Nothing, Nada. Requiem for an Esterbrook. I had it for 2-3 days?Snifff!

I'm so pitifully behind. I've been able to glance at this thread over the last week, but my new job is keeping me so busy. I wish I had time to respond to all of the gorgeous pens, writing, ink, etc...

I did have this reply a few days ago to some questions about my Osmiroids.

fpn_1404001963__osmiroid_b4.jpg

I just decided to do a picture of my desk. I'm doing some experimenting with long-distance writing, writing for a couple of pages of packed lines without stopping. It's really letting me know which of my pens are good for marathons as opposed to sprints. Some of the really fun ones to write with, like my Lamy's are just not good for long writing sessions, mainly because I don't have the right kind of grip.

So, here's the pile of ones I've been writing with lately.

fpn_1404001914__desk_of_pens_smaller.jpg

From Right to left:

Lamy Joy

Aurora Ipsilon (yellow pen and excellent long-distance writer)

Mont Blanc 12 from 1960's (champion long-distance writer)

Pelikan m200 with mid-90's m250 gold nib (also excellent long-distance writer)

Parker 51 Signet (that's the one with the stub nib, and a surprisingly excellent long-distance writer)

Sheaffer Snorkle (stub)

Esterbrook LJ (red) with the Osmiroid B4 nib

Osmiroid early 80's

Lamy Vista

Parker 45

Sheaffer Targa

Up in the glass flower frog, left to right

Sheaffer Legacy (better than I thought, but ended up too heavy for long-distance writing)

Pelikan m250 green

Esterbrook J (blue) (next in line for long-distance testing

Parker 45

Platinum Preppy

hiding behind is my Parker Vacumatic (next in line to test)

Y'all have also convinced me to replace the sac on a small Waterman hard-rubber vest pen with a real flexible nib. I think I'm going to have to learn how to write with a flexible nib, now, and it's the only one I've got.

I am finding, though, that my three best long-distance writers, the MB, the Pelikan and the Aurora Ipsilon, all have springy nibs. But there are some harder nibs that also work surprisingly well, like the Parker 51 stub.

Well, that's pretty much most of my pens, with the exception of a couple of Sheaffer Balances, my Monteverde Artista, another identical vacumatic that needs restoration, another Parker 45, maybe another pen or two not really worth mentioning and my desk pens. Oh, and the Sheaffer vacuum-filler that is currently at Gerry Berg's for repair. Those are my users. It's really more than I thought.

I guess I have about 20-25 daily writers, and maybe 10-15 that aren't in working condition or I'm wanting to eventually sell so aren't using.

Now that is sad. I'm so sorry. You'll just have to jump right back in the saddle and get yourself another. They're great.

I'm using this!

New pen that arrived just this week - it's a Sailor Precious Woods pen in Ebony. I'm going to spend a few weeks using it and then put up a review, but so far I love it! I love that the wood grain is so subtle that it just looks like a plain black pen from a distance.

It's quite nice out here in the sunshine...

The Ebony Sailor is absolutely gorgeous. Cannot wait to see more of its use!

DC: Wow. The celluloid on that Welsh pen is just gorgeous. You really do know how to pick 'em. --h

Wish I could write better. Looks awful in closeup. Printing paper… Absorbent. Hum! Got my Rhodias, Looking very good and were $3.25 ea. They were Fabriano. Not Rhodias. Rhodia notebooks are on the way so i will be able to compare which is best. Saw the description of the Tomoe River paper and I think I could make some notebooks with it.

Why did it turn sideways?
