@amberleadavis - where is Uncle Red? And where is Pterodactylus? Is juggling FPN into our lives that difficult? 😜

Ptero sometimes goes a few days between posts. I don't know about Uncle Red. Let's all start PMing him. :)

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I'm working on my latest art adventure, another desk blotter with trees. You are seeing it as it is created.

Is that a blue Pelikan M200??? Is it a LE from a specific year?

It must have been. I bought a Red, a Smoke and the Blue the year I was accepted to Law school. I have the Red and Smoke as gifts 1 the professor who wrote my stunning letter of recommendation and the other to my cousin her her high school graduation. Neither were FP people. Alas, this pen is my very most used. I have never seen another for sale. I now have two of the clears that were made last year.

IIRClearly, the Pelikan M200 transparent series started in 2001-2005/06.

They came yearly in the following flavors..Dark Green transparent..

Dark Red transparent..Royal Blue transparent..Anthracite {grey} transparent..

and Amber transparent. PIFillers..with gold-plated stainless steel nibs.

Great pens to gift and I still have examples of each for meself.....

Thank you, Fred!! I wish I had bought them all (but budgetary concerns abound). I see the new "cognac" is out.

EMF redone and remixed!

I tried the EMF grind on this Serwex MB a while back wit barely any noticeable results. I also ground the tip to a slightly finer point which just made it feel scratchy like the inner tipping areas were grabbing the paper... basically I didn't improve anything.

So with nothing to loose I ground off more material a few days ago thinking maybe I didn't go far enough the first time. I also created a REALLY REALLY cool looking beveled edge to the outside edge of the tines (check the pics). I also smoothed out the tipping with some sort of thin sheet nib cleaner that came with my Pilot Parallels and a little more elbow grease.

It still doesn't flex like my custom Namiki Falcon, but it is much better. I'm not sure if the lines are thicker, but the flex is definitely easier to produce.

Look at that bevel! so nice!

edit:

I also made the tines thinner along the outside edge.

I couldn't create a bevel like that if my life depended upon it! Nice job.

Breathe. Take one step at a time. Don't sweat the small stuff. You're not getting older, you are only moving through time. Be calm and positive.

The hardest part about collecting is deciding which ink goes into which FP. There are several things to consider - how does the nib perform and will that performance fit the ink. For example I personally would use Apache Sunset only in wetter FPs or flex nibs, or perhaps a bright ink in a modern funky FP or a darker, sophisticated ink in a vintage FP... Just some thoughts.

So... I receive this awesome sample package from Amberlea for the original Ent drawing. Now I have to decide which FP pairs well (in my own head) with the new inks. What a challenge that just screams, "JUST BUY MORE PENS!" Lol.

The Jane Austin ink is incredible. What a perfectly named ink too. It's a perfect color for writing letters to loved ones, or creating romantic drawings. The Monte Verde purple POPS! It will make a fantasic drawing ink. Simplisties Violet is really cool too. It writes like an all business dark purple, but a little waterbrush pulls out some very exciting purples.

Thanks Amberlea!
