I'm happy with the skeleton crew today (Pelikans M215 and 600):

TWSBI Micarta B. I heard they are soon to be discontinued and had to get another one. Came with a nice notebook.

The TWSBI Micarta is one of my favorite traveling pens - it seems virtually indestructible and is the first pen on my list for trips where conditions are uncertain or less than ideal (for example, canoe trips, hunting and fishing expeditions, any place one might run into J. Peterman, etc.). I got mine with a Broad nib and had Pendleton Brown create a stub that is just fantastic. I've not had problems with staining but am not really concerned about that as it would seem to add character to the pen (at least, in my opinion). The pen does develop patina with use.

Get one before they're gone!

So, what's the fill like? I don't own a Micarta. I really like my piston fill pens.

I love the looks of the Micarta, and all this talk of them made me go and order one. Don't know when/if they are actually being discontinued, but it was a good enough reason for me to get one. :D

So many inks, so little time...

This pen really makes me smile. I love the design, color, shape and the nib..... The other pen is a Superstyl de Bayard.

tringle :

The French Art Deco pen looks nice. I think the cigar shaped simplistic design has been followed by many other players. No rings no bands. I have got a Sailor KOP- almost like this body shape. I tend to warm up to celluloid bodies. Light and great to handle. Funny stand too - whats that which holds the pen in both hands seemingly with pumped up muscles !

Attila, in my book "ugly" pens are pretty hard to find. Some are plain, some fancy, some pristine, others weathered. I seem to like 'em all. In some ways I think the character reflected by a patina developed over years of hard use is more attractive than a NOS pen of the same vintage.

Take this Waterman's 14, for example - clearly this pen has "been around the block" - even its clip is missing - and yet for me the look is reminiscent of a favorite piece of well-worn leather and renders the pen more lovely, more interesting, easier to pick up and write with. One gets the sense it is made to be used at an antique desk writing lines of prose. Now, if only I had an antique desk ...

David :

I share your views. Certain pens age up with dignity and look rich with over use, patina and dented organs. Thats a nice pen, though clip lost to abuse.

Sometime in the past I was looking for an indestructible pen, and a friend of mine suggested ' Rotoring '. I didn't buy tho'. Felt a tad short . But I know its a very robust pen ! And a great writer too.

My latest pen blew my mind. BLEW MY MIND. I didn't even want to buy it. I HAD TO BUY IT.

Custom made, before my eyes, by Roger Cromwell, a Taccia Savanna bison horn pen with a dip pen nib. Ink is Diamine Ancient Copper.

I'll just leave these photos here :D.

Forget the pen for a minute... you wrote that? With your HAND? Gorgeous indeed.

Cart your pens from home to work. When I worked in an office I experienced the same dilemma. Well, I decided which pen and once I got home from a long work day, I really wanted the pen I left in my office which i could not retrieve until 8am the next morning back at home with me.

I could send you my ninja suit I used to break into the office if you get in a pickle!

Amber : Beautiful inks. The Diamine Cerise looks so attractive. Guess you have allotted the pens, each one ink / color. Quite a number of pens. Now I know why the judge is so distracted !!

:) Thanks. I really like the Cerise.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Our office is 24x7 anyway - getting a pen from there would be easy; getting in and out without someone going "Oh hey! While you're here...." is the hard part. I'm going to resolve it by only taking duplicates. :)

pomperopero,

Those are some handsome pens, but they are overshadowed by your lettering. I've bookmarked your blog for inspiration.

Namiki Monkeys live in the trees. They feast on eggs and don't like to share their forest. Like the Ents, Namiki Monkeys can't be trusted.

My new Gama Hawk (shiney with clip) in action. It's my first ebonite. The material feel really good! More dense and warm compared to thinner plastics. The nib line width compares to my TWSBI ef thickness, but the Gama Hawk nib is smoother! The steel is thinner and not as well stamped as the TWSBI nib, but maybe the #6 size adds some bounce? The feed keeps up exceptionally well. The only problem has been some burping. I just read eyedroppers should be filled completely to eliminate air that may expand and push ink out, so I'll give that a try. If it works this pen is fantastic.

Are you related to Walt Disney? That monkey is too cool - and I love your "staging" with your hand holding your pen next to the drawing as though the drawing and your pen are magically connected. L Frank Baum visits Middle Earth!

Breathe. Take one step at a time. Don't sweat the small stuff. You're not getting older, you are only moving through time. Be calm and positive.
