Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us!

Drop caps, interesting stuff!

What pen is that?

Looks like a Namiki Falcon with the plastic body? Handwriting looks like it too since it is labeled as a soft nib and not full flex I think? I like the drop caps myself. When my computer decides to stop being foolish I will post my handwriting, first I need to go to my local B&M and get some new ink in honor of posting in this great thread :) .

Yeah, that's what it is. It's my favorite. Well, I have an Ahab that's probably more overall fun, but it also fills me with rage because of all the problems the Ahabs seem to have. The Falcon always flies for me. The Ahab ... beaches like a whale? Metaphor is failing me.

Anyway, thanks everyone else for your great examples. Gives me something to strive for! Also, it's funny how once you post a photo of your handwriting you become hyper aware of all the flaws. c'est la vie.

Pelikan M800 green striped, fine nib, Pharmacists "Darkening Absinthe"

Lovely pen!! I've been eyeing one just like it. And, I have to comment on your text - I was singing it the whole way through. :)

On the M800 - in your experience would you be able to compare it to a MB 146? If so, which would you prefer? Thanks!JDW

Hello JDW,

personally I prefer the Pelikan 800's, because they are a tad bigger than the MB 146's. The Pelikans are somewhat "back-heavy", the MB's are more balanced. Concerning the nibs and writing qualities I had to send all of my three 146's to John Sorowka for regrinding and adjusting the nibs for proper writing qualities.

So I have to say concerning out of the box qualities and regarding price have an eye on the Pelikans.

Cheers, Gunther

Thats a nice stub on your Lamy! I want to try crisp up my Italic 1.1 - any suggestions?

Violet ink, hmmmmm. I got a bottle of Lavender waiting for my new Estie that's on its way, once the Olympic cyclists have finished blocking the roads here in the UK!!!!!

Hmmm...making a stub is pretty easy, but if you want a crisper nib you will need time and patience, as it is easy to round the edge too much when smoothing! A high-grit sharpening stone or some sandpaper on a hard surface should be perfect for the initial grinding (be careful, stop every few seconds and check the progress). For the smoothing, 8000 and 12000 grit Micromesh pads are a great option. Good luck! And, I know the waiting is hard, but bear with the poor cyclists

Da Vinci, where did you get your P51?

From eBay.co.uk -you pays your money and takes your chance so I guess I should stop griping!

Nibs found "in the wild" often need adjustment. Try contacting FPN member Oxonian.

Thanks, thats a good idea, I'll do that. Would love the pen to be "perfect"...!
