Thanks, but my writing is just a poor rip off of the famous youtuber, immovablemovers. I'm trying hard to learn that style and then I'll add my own twists later.

The custom needle point is scratchy and I love it! After a few days it's actually less scratchy because I got use to extremely light pressure. I really enjoy the sounds this pen makes. It sounds like art. Also, another benefit is all my other pens feel even more buttery after writing with the Spencerian Falcon. It's like all my plain nibs got an upgrade!

Is it scratchy like a dip nib is scratchy? Because I don't think I'd mind either, in fact I really like dip nibs.

Guess I'll find out on Wednesday, and I couldn't be more excited :)

I don't know? I haven't even flirted with a dip pen since college and that was to push acrylic paint around in some tight spots.

I posted a lengthy review somewhere around here. Since then I need to update my opinion on this pen as an everyday writer. My hand has adjusted to the touch required even more and I think I could use the custom nib to write daily notes or whatever. Stabbing the paper on an up stroke just doesn't happen like I thought it would.

Overall this nib is so much fun it makes all my other pens feel boring. It's a paint brush, but more pleasing.

I wish the con70 fit in this pen. Currently I have a Pilot cartridge installed with a mix of Pilot blue and Parker Quink, but I think I'll give the con 50 another try. The top of nib seems to flood with ink while using the cartridge which might be because I removed the little cartridge cap completely - it was angled slightly after install and that may slow ink flow? WHen I pulled it back out to add some black Quink I just removed that little lid completely.

Pens for work:

  1. Parker Sonnet with the factory steel medium italic nib : Diamine Registrar's Ink
  2. Pilot Capless (aka Vanishing Point) with a Richard Binder italic nib : Rohrer & Klingner Scabiosa
  3. Pilot Falcon Soft-Fine : J Herbin Café des Îles
  4. Duke Porcelain : Diamine Majestic Blue

Apologies for the smear: that Binder nib is really wet.

I really like the look of that Duke Porcelain. What is it like to use? I've seen some on eBay and due to the relatively low price I'm very tempted to add one to my collection.

I read the review, interesting to hear it's changed since you've had it (or rather, you've changed). Was it love at first write or did you get to liking it the more you used it? Your comments on it not stabbing are interesting, as dip nibs can do that quite readily.

I get the feeling I'm going to love this pen :)

Thanks,

Joe

Definitely love at first write. I could stab the paper and the nib is definitely sharp enough to puncture a lung. It is a weapon mightier than a sword, but adjusting to it was fairly easy. I went pretty slow the first day and I've built speed ever since. My first few words looked cheap and silly compared to how I can flick it out now. I don't even think about it now after a week and many hours of practice. The more I use this pen the more I respect John Mottishaw.

I don't think I could use a glass pen, I'd constantly be trying to flex the nib LOL!

What's a glass pen like? Smooth and stiff?

Not all glass pens are created equally! Most are just irritating. I found the ones from Lauscha to be better than most. You want one that has been tested and writes for a full page with a single dip. My very best pens were made in the 1990s and have now all broken. I don't even remember who made them. The recent Herbins have been generally disappointing and most of the Muranos have been equally miserable to use. Generally, they have a sweet spot and you sort of turn them while you are writing. They are great for testing or demonstrating FP inks because they perform more like a FP than do dip pens, and they clean up easier than refilling your FPs. As a daily writer, forget it.

It's a comparison of blue inks. Specifically, that amazing blue is BSB.

And today it was a court day, so I used my court pen, the MB Starwalker fineliner. This one is a broad/bold and they are no longer available. It had started to dry out so I did my magic refill and added Pilot Ama-Iro.
