Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

What exactly is a duo nib and how does it work?

I picture a nib grind with two points, or two levels?

I had the same question, only my thought was it writes one width held normally and the other with the feed side up.

Breathe. Take one step at a time. Don't sweat the small stuff. You're not getting older, you are only moving through time. Be calm and positive.

That's my understanding as well, though there are other grinds that allow one to vary line width by changing the angle of the pen (i.e. degrees off of the plane of writing surface).

@OOPhoto

Can you see what Mr. Binder did to increase the flexibility of the nib (changed the nib geometric or made the nib thinner from the underside)?

If yes it would be great to see close-up pictures of what he did (so we might be able to adapt it for an own nib mod ;) ).

Pterodactylus...

My treasure chest is not so great as I desire, but I focus over not so common pens. Today a new pen was delivered... A Parker 45 Arrow GT (plastic cap with gold plated trims). I'm washing the pen now. Tomorrow I'll post some pictures here...

If I were your college professor, I'd always pull your blue book out of the pile and read it first. I'm not too sure I'd even care what you had written, frankly.

Tringle, nice pens. I've got a couple of Imperials and love them.

Ptero, Love the 400 N's. The Turtle was the first submarine used in war back in the American Revolution. It's sole crew member did survive the attempt.

Eduardo, quality over quantity. Congrats on the 45, what nib did you get?

DRWWE, Nice looking pen. That's one of the nice WE's.

MrCharlie: SHHHHH don't tell my secret! LOL!

Thanks everyone! I always try to have fun when I write and let my hands dance where ever they feel like.

The Binder nib appears to have a more slender geometry, ie the tines are thinner length wise. From the grind marks present it also appears to be thinned from the bottom.

The duo-point is on the top side of the nib. This lets you write with the top side of the nib, feed up. Now i can hear you guys already...... but you can write with the top side of any nib! Well, yes, on some of my pens I can indeed write with the top of the nib, however, most of the time it is a scratchy affair, or dry, or I harpoon the paper like a crazed whaler. The duo point lets me write (or flourish like a madman) with a smooth, wet, xxf line that I am not afraid is going to catch on the paper. I can use zero pressure and ink still comes pouring out of the top, letting me make crazy huge xxf flourishes as can be seen in the first "today" on the page. There is only one other vintage pen I own that will do that. All the others I don't even bother because they spear the paper or write too dry.

Here's a couple shots of the grinding and the magic duo point:
