That's the point to Zentangle...ANYONE can do it! Because you're just drawing pre-determined patterns you don't have to be very "artistic" at the beginning. But, like anything else, the more you do it the better you get. Doing the demo videos on Youtube is how I got started as well, mrcharlie. The stuff from the official website are rather pricey. But there are TONS of books from other people on the subject of Zentangle. You can also sign up for their free newsletter which has new "official" designs from time to time.

I'm not associated with Zentangle in any way, shape, or form. I just really like the method and when I really like something, I love talking about it. Like fountain pens! LOL! ;)

Beautiful pen. I'm drooling over that nib, gorgeous line variation. Did you get both from Richard Binder?

Your lovely handwriting absolutely sings with this combination of ink and pen.

My first attempts at Zentangle. It's very addicting, fun and so relaxing. As I learn new patterns I'm sure I'll get better at this. One thing I noticed in the videos is that shading is done with pencil. To stay true to pen and ink I tried to shade with a pen but found that none of my nibs are fine enough (or maybe my touch isn't light enough) to render the shades without being over powering.

Pen used is Noodler's Ahab with Manhattan Blackest Black. Paper is a notebook I found at Staples that was manufactured in Brazil. It's fountain pen friendly for most but not all ink.

Not at all, you just pointed me into the right direction. This sort of stuff is right up my alley, I just needed proper guidance. It's a great outlet for someone that can't draw and an excellent excuse to play with fountain pens. It's also a good way to use that growing collection of ink :)

Ptero..I can't believe you do all that blending with such a thin brush.

That pig is a riot, LOL.

Thanks :)

Yes I do, so it takes a while, till now never tried something bigger.

It gives me good control not to cross edges but makes it difficult to make bigger areas homogeneously.

And of course it is slow.

I use it in that way, to have the Brush in my left hand and the FP in my right hand.

I'm beginner and autodidact so for me it would be very interesting to see which brushes and techniques other people use.

So, Attlila, Tas, Plistumi, Prvt. Toter, Finalist..... which brushes do you use and how do you work?

I use one of these Pentel Water Brushes:

http://www.taskyprianou.com/fpn_pentel.jpg

I was originally worried that they would retain the ink colour and transfer it but, being synthetic, any residual colour washes off in just a couple of strokes on clean paper. They are really handy, totally portable and mine has lasted for nearly two years.

Love them!

An eye for insignificant details is a good sign you will do just fine in medical school...

As a sharp wit and powerful sarcasm is a sign that you already have.

Wow, great response I love your cave man. :)

Thanks a lot.

Maybe you should try a brush some time, splashing with water can be also a lot of fun. ;)
