Now that I'm in university, I finally have a use for the bottle of Herbin Orange Indien. Everyone's vintage pens and flex nibs in this thread are so nice!

My pens: Two Parker 45s, a Parker Jotter, a Pilot Custom 74 smoke demonstrator, a Lamy Studio, a Parker Sonnet Ciselé, and a Duofold International Citrine

Hi everyone,

I've been working like crazy this week and last, which hasn't left any time to post here, but I've certainly enjoyed the pens and inks.

Tas, as a lawyer I must reply to you, "I have no present recollection of anything you have mentioned." :) Plausible deniability is always a good tool to keep in one's back pocket. Great pen, too, and is that your drawing of the R&K bottle? Fantastic!

I get to go to my first pen club meeting this week - P.E.N.S. in St. Paul, Minnesota, and this is reason enough for my first-ever use of the happy dance bunny :bunny01:

After nearly 25 years of collecting fountain pens I finally have a chance to rub shoulders with some like-minded folks. To make it better, the agenda includes a calligraphy demonstration and lesson from one of the club members, FPN's own Sinistral1. I've inked a fair pile of pens with flex nibs (and a couple of wide nibs, because really, they just rock) in anticipation of the meeting:

Here are the pens and inks written down (to help my aging mind keep track):

And the pens, 1-12 are left to right

And 13-17 are right to left (sorry about that):

I know a few other FPNers are going to be there - if you are watching this thread, hope to see you on Friday!

ooooh I am drooling here! lol! I aspire to have a collection like this someday, lol!!!

Welcome to all the new members! Keep posting and writing...

The pen #18 on my "Grail Pen" list became available and I took the plunge. Here are photographs and a writing sample!

Lovely pens, all!

I just received my green Franklin-Christoph Model 2 Intrinsic (new shape) with the steel medium stub.

Did it write dry when I got it? Is the Sahara not a great environment for fish? :-D

These pictures do not show the colour at all :( This was the best I could do with my phone camera:

Ink is J Herbin 1670 Bleu Ocean.

Hi Troy,

I was thinking about getting a HS instead of the M800 partly because of the softer/ flexier nibs they have.

It is still on my wishlist, I hope it will work out for you in the end!

@akustyk and @Occipital Lobe - nothing wrong with this feed and what was wrong with the nib could easily be fixed by pulling the tines and re-aligning them. I wanted to try out the steel nibs and also compare the stub with the cursive, so I might do a write-up on that later. But they are relatively small differences: the gold is wetter, springier, and easier to adjust, but they both perform well once adjusted.

Good to hear that you´re satisfied, but I am still too wet behind the ears to start "fixing" nibs.

I also feel that a product from a company that produces a "relatively low" output, shoul be able to secure a more consistent result.

I would be very disappointed if I purchased a pen with a specialty-nib, and I had to return it or send it elsewhere for further refinement.

Based on your picture, there´s still a huge difference in flow between those two nibs.

I will look forward to an update.

Hope you enjoy your new pen, and have a great weekend.

'Afternoon everyone.

One of those rare lazy Saturdays here in North London. The calm before the Christmas shopping storm perhaps . . .

A nice Greek coffee, and a few scribbles with my two week old TWSBI Vac 700 EF amber loaded with Diamine's excellent Ancient Copper.
The pen & ink combination is so spot on that when I write or sketch it almost feels like the pen itself is melting out through the feed and nib onto the page.

Yes, I agree. From my sample of two I would say that their output is inconsistent and quality controls insufficient. They should not have shipped the nib I got this time and there were at least two production problems with the last pen. However, I kind of do data analysis for a living so I suggest you look at more reviews before judging them: two doesn't really cut it as far as sample size goes. And I have to say their customer service and willingness to fix problems is very good.

@Tas: that Vac 700 looks fabulous with that ink. I have the clear model of the pen and I am a huge fan (despite the many, many O-rings involved). Love your ink bottle sketch.

Of course you are right, but my worries are based on one person receiving two consecutive deliveries which are lacking in quality. Those are horrible odds. I´ve read a few other similar stories, and that´s what is dicouraging me at the moment. I love the idea of supporting a small company, and they have some very appealing models, but it has to be delivered in working order.

I have only heard praise of their customer service, but I really do wish they would convey some of that positive labour onto their quality control. I would find that to be resources well spent :0)
