Here's the nib of the Sheaffer Imperial VIII, it's a broad, or a double broad or something.

Pterodactylus I stumbled upon this pen. I was not looking a new pen but it took me 10 second to pull the trigger. Glad I did.

Today's pen is my new Jinhao X-450; medium nib; Diamine Imperial Purple ink, Hammermill 24# Colour Copy Digital paper.

The nib is firm but smooth; I write with more pressure than with my Esties and Parkers with this pen. No idea why. No feathering; minimal shading, although that may well be due to the ink, I've remarked on that to my wife. The section has finger indentations at 120 degrees (thirds) that are comfortable, but take some time for me to become accustomed to them. The section itself has a rubbery coating that is very grippable and comfortable. The cap is very secure when covering the section, but when posting requires a firm ... er ... hand, otherwise it's quite wobbly. The pen itself is very hefty, something I find comfortable. The clip is stiff, it won't come off of a pocket front easily. Capped, 138mm; posted, about 160mm; bbl diameter 13mm; section/grip diameter ~11mm.

All in all, for less than five dollars US, I can't complain at all, it's far better than it's sale price would lead one to believe.

mhphoto,
A Mabie Todd blackbird in the thin model. It's the only vintage flex I have until my waterman 52 arrives, the waiting kills ):

Hello FPN'ers - Three weeks away and just returned to reading all the posts.

mukakuduk - Very nice looking 52 1/2, I agree Pokermon has excellent deals and provides excellent quality pens for the price.

Can you believe not one new pen in my travels. I visited some pen stores in Zurich, Lucerne and London and could not find myself purchasing a new fountain pen. Although I was certainly tempted, but the deciding factor was the dollar is just too weak of a bargaining instrument even against the Swiss Franc and the British Pound.

Have a great day!

TMR

Got a Baoer 388 today from China. Very impressed, actually! It's a pleasure to write with.

And it is, of course, a (copy? clone?) of the Parker Sonnet, though not for the purpose of trying to fool people into thinking it's a genuine Sonnet. The Baoer brand name is proudly displayed all over the pen. Some proportions are slightly off from the Sonnet, but that just lends more individuality to the pen I guess. I've heard of Baoer's business strategy as being analogous to the third tier pen makers in the '30s and '40s, i.e. copying the big boys but still making something clearly from your own brand.

I would not bring my 51's to work. It is -10* in the freeezer. They may crack ?

The pencils never freeze.

I might grab another pencil.

That is better, always have a backup.
