Also, whats an actual vintage pen that has flex that I could easily find online? :o Not too expensive too haha

and: Is there a good tutorial on widening the feed channel? I don't really wanna attempt it on the Falcon without seeing someone else do it.

edit: the feed really doesn't want to come out =.=

With the typewriter out of commission until I go out and find a replacement spring...

Glory to the pens!

Edit in: If you are curious... It applies pressure to a bar that dictates how the Tab/Return function works on the typewriter. If I apply manual pressure to it, I can get it to tab and return perfectly. It didn't return the carriage properly to begin with.

Maybe Line can give you some advice as I think she did it already.

Regarding vintage flex it depends also how much flex you want.

If semi-flex is ok (i think at least as much as a Falcon can give you) you can consider a Pelikan or Mont Blanc from the 50s.

Many German 50s pens have semi flex nibs.

e.g. Pelikan 100, 140 or 400 or MB 3xx, 2xx,....

They are quite common, piston fillers, very well constructed and not too expensive.

Of Course there are many many others also.

For full flex I think you should look for pre war pens, but this is not an easy topic anymore.

Maybe a nice Mabie Todd...

My old Watermans are fantastic, but no piston fillers and more expensive.

But remember not all old pens have flex nibs, and buying an old pen is always gambling if you get a good one or not.

Also consider that on the old ones sometimes something break and will need some extra money to fix it again.

The possibilities are almost endless I would suggest you think about the following basic points first:

  • How much flex do I want
  • How much money do I want to spent

Then you can take a closer look what fits into it.

I read a lot of reviews to get a impression what I want to have.

Most of the times I do it the other way around, not looking for something special, just look for interesting pens on the market and if I found something interesting I try to find as much information about it as I can.

If it's still interesting I try to get it (but not at all cost).

You have to be able to wait for a bargain ;)

At the end it's as I already said still a game if you get a good one or not.

Here is a shot of some of my more economical flexers... Note I did not include the Elabo... expensive and mine skips more than writes.but from what I read, that is not the norm for these pens..

If you think everything is going well... you obviously have no idea what is really going on!

I've got two pens that are not famous brands with great flex nibs and another with a good semi flex. Check out the lower priced models from famous brands too, Mabie Todd Swans are great but you can get great nibs on Blackbirds and Jackdaws too. Don't get caught up in the colors and bling, a Waterman 52 BCHR that's scratched and faded may have a great nib (mine does) and it'll cost less than a RHR or Ripple Rose 52 in perfect shape.

That's always a tough one. I've got a bunch of pens to flush right now.

Hi there WholsRances - glad you joined FPN, and this thread. Nice pens you have, and nice writing, too. Only you may want to spend a moment "synchronizing" you watches. :D

I have neglected for nearly a month my Stub O' the Day thread and today I finally had a chance to get a couple of pens posted there. Here's one I inked today, one of my all-time favorites:

I won't show all the pics I took, but here's a decent shot of the nib:

I am using this one I just bought on ebay. I HAD to have it as I work for AT&T. It required some work, okay quite a bit, but now that I'm done fixing it, it's a GREAT writer!! Ink is Diamine Graphite.

A wee bit late....

Still working on the Dolcevita... I -think- I may finally have gotten the flow just right (extra wet). I hope Mom likes the Aurora. It's a pretty smooth nib and a nice writer, just too small for me.

00Photo, your handwriting is incredible!! Love the AT&T pen!
