Sheen? Pt did you mention sheen?!

Pt, I have a bottle of Diamine Sargasso Sea - I absolutely love the color and have experienced the same sheen you show above (great job capturing it so well in a photo!), but it takes soooo long to dry, and even then it is susceptible to smudges. Is your experience the same?

Wow, that American Blue is very sheeny.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

The BB nib is a nice writer, I never thought I would be able to use a big nib. In actuality it's forgiving and smooth I fel neglectful not using the others as if they have lost my favor! ;)

Pt, talking about the Sargasso Sea ink, I wonder whether it depends on when it was purchased? I got mine immediately upon announcement of distribution, actually a little before due to a friend who has contacts within Diamine. There was much discussion following introduction of Sargasso Sea about its difficult properties and it makes me think Diamine tweaked its formula to adjust the ink. Hmmm.

I've had the M800 for quite a while, but this one is very new to me and it has perhaps the best nib I've ever used (inked with MB Midnight Blue):

My apologies to all; I've been thinking of this thread more as a "handwriting practice" thread, rather than the "show us what you're using" that it started out as. Much as I appreciate the advice, I'll try to get back to a focus on the tools. So, being in something of a Gaelic mind tonight, I was enjoying some of my beauties to copy a wonderful Irish folk ballad, and snapped a shot of the last page (and the pens used)...

Is that Sugarcane Bagasse? How are you finding that paper?

Thanks for posting this balad and showing your pens

@Dcpritch

This could be an explanation, I have my bottle only since about 2 months.

Your MB 138 is stunning :puddle:

Such a beauty is missing in my collection, but I fear such a pen is far beyond my personal limit.

Thanks for showing it.

Erm... I look on my shelf, and there it is, just waiting to be found.... :headsmack:

Yes, it is - at least 80%. I am pleasantly surprised by it. The paper is fairly thin - certainly not as tin as, say, Tomoe River, but thinner than my printer paper. Smooth finish, and seems to like the FP inks quite a bit. I don't notice any significant feathering or bleed-through, though I DO notice show-through. But, given the thickness of the paper, I'd be surprised not to so notice.

Btw. does anyone knows how these Herlitz pens really named?

I own two of them since the late 80s or beginning of the 90s and used them in school.

A blue one (used in my posting above) and a orange one.

There is almost nothing available on the net regarding these pens.

I saw them named as "Herlitz Carrara" and also as "Herlitz Carrera" on eBay.

Does anyone know what is correct?

Hi, and please don't apologise as I agree with your sentiment. In fact, as coincidence would have it, I experienced a rather cathartic moment today during my visit to our state capital...

I plan to practice a combination of the letter-froms from this text, along with others I particularly like, in order to learn good letter formation and thus improve my handwriting so as to become a naturally neat as well as swift writer.

This thread has both initiated and facilitated this for me, and has been integral in motivating me to achieve something I could not half a century ago.

Thank you all.

I already was working on improving my handwriting before I found this thread (or this forum, for that matter), but the examples I see on here serve as a constant source of inspiration... I love it...

Cyber6 and Akustyk, that's Sustainable Earth by Staples brand paper. I find it's erratic, sometimes it's as good as Zoniguana says it is and sometimes it's not. I was thinking of trying Black N' Red notebooks next.

First I will show you a little of the snow. I have shoveled 40" of snow off this deck since April 14; what you see is new from last night. I had to make a path this morning so our dog Parker can get to the door and so we can check the maple trees for sap. The snow beyond the deck is generally one meter deep, more where it has drifted.

We were rewarded with clear blue skies this morning. Could it be a reminder that Spring will not forget us?

Oh yeah, this is a pen and ink thread. Sorry for the whining.

Steve, it looks like you are well on your way to making your writing nice enough they would ask you to teach the course. If anyone is in need of remedial work it is me - can I borrow the book after you finish? :)

Uncle Red, I use the Staples Sustainable Earth pads at work and they are pretty good; not great, but for the price I've not seen better. As you say, they seem to be inconsistent from page to page.

I will give it a try. ;)

Recently I wrote a question (regarding a vintage Waterman) to the Waterman customer support.

I never received an answer.

This was really disappointing as I expect at least a response, even in the case they have no answer for the question.

But OK I'm like an elephant, I take also such experiences into account when buying a new writing instrument.

My experience with the Mont Blanc customer support were different, I always got a nice response even if they could not help or answer a question.

Spot on! I currently have a bad batch that bleeds and feathers. My last lot was brilliant and I had no trouble at all.

Black n Red is good, but of course a big jump in price!

The best so far with which I have had no trouble at all, but I do not know if you get it in the USA, is Mondi IQ Prestige 100gsm. It cost me £8 for 500 sheets. Caliken recommended it and he uses it for a lot of his fancy work with lots of ink and huge swells. If you watch his Brause Rose video you will see.
