Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us!

@JazzDoc, congrats on the new pen. I love Mottishaw's work, and I've always been fascinated by the music nib. I do love your writing.

Ok, yesterday was a big day. I had two pens come in with writing sample shown below. Have a look and then I have a question for your bright folks.

Ok, love both pens, but the Stipula is starting to get on my nerves. It has trouble starting, and I'm beginning not to trust it. I filled it first with asa-gao, then went to Sheaffer BB just to double-check it wasn't the ink's fault. But it's still skipping. I know I need to be patient. But I need someone to tell me there is hope. :) Advice appreciated!

@saskia_madding, I love seeing your posts again! Your handwriting and pen / ink combos are always great. Thanks for sharing.

@Cyber6, great spread of kawecos. I've been so fascinated by those little guys, but have yet to pick any up. Which is your favorite of the line?

@English John, that is quite the quiver of quills, my friend!

Geez, the green in Zhivago is subtle!!! :o

If you want to see more green.. dilute it a bit. You will see more shading too.

They are really fun... I am not really into modern pens, so I never gave them a second look. But Cognaticrotty gifted the black Kaweco to my daughter (I believe it was his first FP).. and I LOVED that little thing. Of course.. is NOT mine... and she "lends" it to me once in a while... so I went out and picked up the other kawecos on the classified. But I keep going back to Cog's kaweco (the black one).. it lays down the thicker line of them all.. and is soooo smoooth. So I traded the two colored kawecos for that one (Shhh... Don't tell Cogs).. I also ordered a BB for the clear kaweco.

It should get here anytime now...

This is a sample ink I recently acquired from the Goulet's, (such an awesome family company), and it's becoming a favourite!

Best regards,

I really love all the beautiful pens and writing samples shared here... :notworthy1:

SJH... Steve, what is that graph pad you are writing on... can't help muck with the oblique info... I have a Lamy 1.1 ground with a LH oblique and am struggling with it as well, of course being a lefty means I have my own problems...

N.B. This is not the true Orangey orange colour of this incredibly Orange Orange ink!

P.S. I hope this isn't contributing to your sleep problem! It may cure it!!

Greetings Jay,

You might like to try the following, (how I discovered it I can't remember but I can remember the hours/days I spend trying to resolve flow problems in two identical pens).

Put a drop of dish-washing liquid in a small glass, put a further 20 drops of water into this glass. Mix/swirl gently then dip just the tip of the nib into the diluted mixture. (Leave the ink in the pen before doing this.) Now write with the pen until the ink starts to show.

N.B. Room temperature water only.

If it doesn't work at least no damage has been done, but it worked for my pens.

Best regards,

Steve.

After writing this I came to think: I hope I don't offend anyone wishing you all happy easter. For those of you not celebrating this Christian feast, I wish you all happy days ahead!

@Cyber6, Thanks for the info on the kawecos. I love that you traded your daughter two colorful pens for the black one. I can envision myself doing the same. And, of course, I won't tell Cogs. :)

@Stompie, that's what I was afraid of. I did discover a review posted by Olivier78860 where you actually commented. He outlined three things he had to have his local pen shop do to make the pen write properly. I don't need it to flex per-se, just write consistently. Lovely handwriting as always, especially the Waterman and Ina-ho - great combo.

@Steve, thanks for the help with the nib. Will try it this evening. As you might imagine, this is a very busy but wonderful week for me. :) And, about obliques - I have a few and I've discovered the line variation is not as 'sharp' as with a stub or cursive italic. It does take some getting used to because there is a wider range of orientation at which you can all the nib to address the paper - does that make sense? And in the long run, I prefer an oblique over a stub for my handwriting because I think it suits it better. I wonder if you could try one out for a spell before you buy?

@Quinden, congrats on the new pens. It's always a delight to receive something from Mr. Binder! Writing, as always, looks fantastic.

@Private, lol I couldn't stop laughing at your sketches. Fun stuff. roflmho.gif
