Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us!

Great, Stompie!! What do you ordinarily flush your pens with?

I use water, but seeing that your problem might be a bit longer in the making I would suggest a light white vinegar solution and then good rinsing to get rid of any vinegar residue.

Even with my pens that do get flushed regularly it sometimes takes days to clear them especially with deep inks like Magenta and so on and that is when I also use the vinegar.

I tried using vodka but having to taste test it every half hour to make sure it had not overfermented - well lets just say I was not too concerned about whether the pen was properly flushed or not, as far as I can remember!

Empty the pen and refill it with the solution a couple of times and then let the solution stand in the pen overnight. I also shake the pen every now and then as the liquid then acts in an abrasive manner and loosens old ink that can dry very hard.

When you eventually only get clear water coming out then it is a matter of making sure it is dry before refilling it.

JD, if you can, remove the nib and feed section as this will speed up the process a lot and you will also find a lot of ink between the nib and feed!

Of course, if you still have an ultrasound cleaner, well, off you go then!

When I see FPNers posting pictures upside down I think: "awwww, bless your heart." Now I'm doing it! Think it's the new iPad camera! Or operator error!

Stompie, how light on the vinegar solution, that is, what are the proportion water to vinegar? I have a stuck nib mechanism on my Pelikan and wonder if that might help loosen things up.

post-7728-0-02833700-1363896090.jpgI recently acquired a TWSBI Vac 700, I love the pen. The pen has an interesting story behind it. A friend of mine and were talking about pens, I mentioned I liked the TWSBI 700.

He replied I have a friend that has one to give away. Through a miracle from God, I now have a TWSBI 700 Vac, currently loaded with Diamine Majestic blue.

I dont think it really matters if it is 10, 20, 30 or even 50% as it should not harm your pen.

But flush it well and dont carry it around for a while or people may think you have a chip on your shoulder :roflmho:

Hi, last entry here for a while as I'll be on a trip with the family.

I took this picture in the waning light of the first full day of Spring - I thought the PR Avacado ink matched well with the dark olive patina of the 100 year old Waterman 52, but really you can barely tell because the contrast is too great. Oh well, imagine with me, if you will.

Have a great week everyone!

Oh, I forgot to show a couple of things about this pen. First, the "52" stamp on the end of the barrel still retains some its red imprint, which you don't see every day. The patent dates on the barrel of this 52 are faint but still legible: 1884, , May 23, 1899, and August 1, 1903. Man I love this old stuff!!!

The accommodation clip I found for this pen is just the coolest - a "Diamond Point Safety Clip" with a Feb. 26, 1907 patent date - 106 years ago!

Thank you for the update. Guess I can up the vinegar solution from a 1 - 10 ratio. The 50% sounds very good. The pen still works fine but I'd like to give it a proper cleaning after years of neglect. As for vinegar smell, I rinse my hair with it every now and then :)
