I think I may have figured out one of the reasons I have been having so much trouble figuring out flex... I write too "expletive-deleted" small, ordinarily, and the pen doesn't have an opportunity to return to "fine" before my next heavy down stroke... This, of course,is with my sole flex pen - the Ahab:

fpn_1361222913__1.jpg

If I want to *write*, I write... If I want to make my letters "pretty", I have to slow down and do so... I imagine, as I gain finer control over this flex thing, I will still hit some threshold at which the Ahab's flex will no longer be noticeable, but I wanted to share the moment of "EUREKA!" (or, to quote Dr. Gru, "liiiight buulb...")

Be forewarned... I will eye-bang the bejeezus out of your pens...
Never play leapfrog with a unicorn...

And yes, my handwriting looks atrocious, as I try to learn a new set of movements... *shrug* I'll keep working on it! :ltcapd:

And another Eureka moment - if I just bear down with the Ahab, I can write pretty close to my normal size and speed (opening up my letters a bit), and get the flex I am looking for - I don't have to constantly focus on varying the pressure - just write... But, it sounds like I am scribbling on sandpaper (when I am writing on pretty smooth R&B). Is that normal??

Edit: Yes, if you bearing down on your pen all the time as you write you are opening up the tines and they are scratching the paper.

was plannng to post this to the ink forum, but scanner is kaput and colors aren't quite right... but it is what I have been writing. Zhivago is typically very dark in my pens, but in this new to me Rotring 600 EF it is a pleasant green. Could be a little water in the works. I had to soak for hours to loosen the dried ink in this pen then put in the ultrasonic cleaner for a spell or two. Now it writes wonderfully... and a beautiful shade of green...

Love the 51's and the TWSBI Mini, going to look for one of those..

I am hoping to hit the antique mall and I am feeling lucky. GRIN... there is always an old pen looking for a new home and a little TLC.

If you think everything is going well... you obviously have no idea what is really going on!

Here's my Daily carry featuring my two new acquisitions I've gained since the geeks so kindly featured me.

Thankfully, school now lets me use blue ink. I difference in ink shade, between the Lamy and Osmiroid is in the nib widths.

The 'Diamine mix' is mostly Ultra Green; with a dash of Onyx Black.

P.s. Very pleased to see people taking their 'race horses' out for a gallop, now and again.

The sad moment when you actually have to explain what a fountain pen is to somebody.

Nice writing... I cannot get any flex to speak of out of my AHAB, it starts to railroad almost immediately upon additon of pressure.

Insomnia often leads to writing at my desk as well...
