Kaweco Sport Clip Slides Right Off!

When I got the pen new, it had the clip on it already. After 1 or two days, I noticed it slid out and the clip was on my pocket and the pen was deep inside the pocket. I slid the clip on but it was too slippery to clip to my pants pocket again. It just came right off! I tried to squeeze the metal together on the clip to make it tighter, but it had no effect. I really like this little pen, but the only reason I got it was to clip it to my pocket. Am I just way greasier than any other kaweco sport owner? (I am not oilier than average).

No solution, just commiseration from another greasy guy. I had the same idea as you with my Kaweco Sport, keep it clipped to the top of my jeans pocket. But that plastic might as well be Teflon when it comes to having a clip on it. After a day of trying that, I wondered why they even bother selling the stupid clips. On the other hand, the good thing about that plastic is that it is nice and soft and can ride around in my pocket without doing damage to the iPhone that shares its space. Gorilla glass front, plastic back, and chrome colored trim are all safe from scratches. The pen itself doesn't mind the rough treatment it gets bouncing around, no leaks in the cap, always ready to write, and my EF nib is incredibly smooth. Now that warmer weather is here, I've dug the cap out of my parts box and tried it again, this time with the clip doing duty in my t-shirt pockets. They are shallow and there is no room for the pen to slip down. So far so good. If it continues to behave, I will promote it to duty on polo shirt plackets and see how that goes.

I've come to rely on my Kaweco and would really hate to lose it.

While the clip is off the pen, can't you slightly bend the clip to tighten it up?

Yes I squeeze it as much as it will go, but it doesn't seem to change size and makes no difference. It seems that the plastic is just really smooth. I might try some large grit sand paper. Yours doesn't do this? It is very strange. It is like after it slips past its strong static coefficient of friction, it slides very easily from then on. Until I don't touch it for a while, then it is secure again (until it slips). Very strange.

That's strange, what colour/model is it? I have a clip on my black Sport Classic, and it won't move at all. I don't even want to try pulling it off because it's so tight it will probably scratch the barrel.

When I first got mine, it was also really tight, but now it slips. It is a blue ice sport.

Mine's a blue ice, too, but mine's never slipped at all.

The Caran d'Ache Metal series pens and their Fixpencils have a similar clip that is held in place with a little dimple on the barrel and a little dent on the clip that match up to prevent it moving. You might try something like that, drill a small blind hole on the cap and use a punch to dimple the clip. Or only use the clip when carrying the pen in your shirt pocket which is what I do.

That would help, But i dont have the tools to do that. This pen should already come like that. I know if i drill a hole in the plastic with power tools it would likely crack the plastic. If try to punch a dimple into the metal, it would warp the metal of the whole clip. I would need better tools than the ones I have to do that.

In a shirt pocket the clip probably won't slip off whereas in a pant pocket the pen moves a lot more and will slip

Just glue the clip to the cap, that's what I did.

Here's a crazy thought.

Get a standard band aid. Cut off one side and trim it to fit under the clip. Stick it to the inside of the clip. The tricky part is to slide the clip on while slightly spreading the clip. Once on, hopefully the soft rubbery friction will keep the clip in place.

If it doesn't work, you haven't damaged the pen at all.

Good luck!

John

The clip on my Sports (both black) are really tight, there is no way the will come off without really pulling on them. That said, I very rarely clip the pen to my clothes. On two occassions, I clipped the pen to my jeans pocket, but when I went to take it out, I pulled out a cap with no pen. Walking around with the pen clipped had caused the pen to unscrew from the cap and fall off into my pocket. It could be that on the two occassions it happened, I hadn't screwed the cap on tightly enough, or it could just be the friction of it rubbing in my pocket as I walked. Whatever the reason, the result was a nice ink stain on my jeans.

I no longer clip any pen to my trousers, but leave them loose in the pocket. With a pair of jeans there is no way that they will fall out anyway, and loose in my pocket I've never had a cap come off my pen.

I do clip the pens to the lanyard of my work ID badge and have never had any problems with the cap coming loose.

I have had no problems with unscrewing in the pocket yet, but I will watch out for it. Thanks.

Good idea! thanks john. I was thinking about double sided tape, but this seems better.

Yeah, i would put it in my shirt pocket, but this is the west side where nearly everyone wears t-shirts and dont have shirt pockets. I would try glue, but ill make it a last resort. I dont want to nasty-up my pen with a bunch of gunky glue. I am sure it works with the right glue but first I am going to explore less damaging options.

Thanks,

Mike:)

Hi! I bought to a England dealer a bronze clip for my black scratched aluminium Kaweco AL Sport. The first trouble is that the clip in not affordable in Mexico. The clip slip out all the time. I thigh it as possible but it was not enough. Yesterday, i found the pen in the deep of my coat bag, and the clip was lost. It's very expansive import from England the clip... I'm very angry with Kaweco.

Hmmm, I've never clipped my vintage style Sport clip to anything other than an inside jacket pocket. It's the one pen I feel comfortable travelling with without any pen case.

It's very secure, but I can certainly see how a Sport clipped to a pants pocket might, with the motion of walking, gradually work a slip on clip up the cap till the two part ways.

I have two Kaweko Sports. Never had such a problem.

I wonder how some people put the clip on. If that might cause the problem.

I Had this same issue with the deluxe clip so I drilled and tapped a hole into the clip and my Kaweco Brass Sport. I then used a small metric set screw to bolt the clip to the pen. I applied a thin coating of silicone grease to get a nice air tight seal around the threads to make sure the nib doesn't dry out. Yes this destroys the resale value, but it makes the pen more utilitarian in my case. I'm a professional printing press mechanic and the last thing I want to do is dig around in my pocket for my pen when my hands are covered in lithographic ink.
