In Paper Heaven 完全

My shipment is almost on its way from Japan to The Netherlands. I spoke with a printer today, he can make notebooks out of this, I am thinking of 50 sheets A4, half A4 and one fourth A4. Thanks to all the people who have described their experiences here. Ruud

I have successfully made a pad roughly A5 in size for writing letters (cut it down, clamped t and glued it) and it works great. A writing pleasure.

Anyone in the UK have any of this paper so I could try a sample?

I can put a few sheets into an envelope and send them to you from the US if you PM me your address. My very small contribution to "pay it forward".

Maybe someone from Europe can sell me a sample?

I wish there were more domestic paper makers that would use dense or what I would call high quality high fiber count quality paper. Not to down Rhodia/clairefontiane 90gr weight paper, but the Tomao River from the books Sam and some of us love is really great and I know less than 65 gr weight paper. I just would love to see a lower weight paper with a flatter finish and no heavy coating maybe 60-70 gr weight.

Just my two cents.

Sam you need to be a a huge distributor work a big deal and I will work on a cool paper design to subdivide the paper and rap it.

BEST

Heartily agree; more focus on lighter weight paper and still keeping the quality for fountain pen users is a definite vacuum in the market.

I can now definitively report that a 3B nib with an ink that normally bleeds through like DeAtramentis will show through a little, but the paper is imminently usable for writing on the backside!

This is great stuff! :notworthy1: :notworthy1: :notworthy1:

I completely screwed my cost calculations for price per sheet (that's what happens when I try to switch between yen, sterling, and dollars too fast at my age...) but one thing I did manage to calculate correctly was that even with the shipping and tax, TR was still considerably cheaper than the premium papers I buy from my local stationer. (I'd have corrected this on my original post but I'm way too late to edit that now.) Even on eBay, Conqueror Parchment sets me back about 16p a sheet. I didn't notice how much the Conqueror cost because I just pick up a packet, and if it doesn't make my nose bleed then it's "okay." I didn't actually do the calculations until I felt I had to justify shipping the TR. And then I felt all virtuous...

If you just want to test the paper and see if you would regret buying 4000 sheets, though, ordering one of the Mucu notebooks or pads via Rakuten still seems the fastest and cheapest way to get your hands on some.

It takes pencil well, by the way. A nice degree of feedback when using 4B, if you're into pencils. I tested it with a fragile 0.2 HB lead (the ultrafine mechanical Pentel that only Jet Pens seems to stock) and even that laid down a better line on TR, as well as not breaking. I'm still working that one out. I wouldn't have thought the small amount of tooth in other papers would have contributed to breakage.

Never occurred to me to try my 6B pencils. Good to know!

A nice big package arrived today. Thanks penhand! :notworthy1: :notworthy1: :notworthy1:

My package got here today. This stuff is absolutely amazing. It feels so fragile but takes ink so well. I tried it with several pens I had sitting on the table and they all were fabulous. And I can also say that it takes pencil well too.

Even when my wife tried it with a BP :o it worked well.

GP, I admit I found that quite funny and I would buy it just for the title.

May have to write something to go with that as soon as the current work in progress is done. :bunny01:

Edited to add that I did a long letter last night using a 3B nib on both sides of the page featuring DeAtramentis Mint Turquoise and the only thing I noticed beyond the faintest of show through is the way the page began to ripple somewhat from the sheer wetness of the nib! Once it dried in [which takes forever with this much ink], it settled right down with only the faintest of ripples.

Let me put an 8 page letter into the same envelope I used to use for 4.

Chris, some days the stars just line up. I got your message the same time 8000 sheets arrived. After hours of repacking, weighing paper and getting them ready to mail, all the paper is gone (except this time I wised up and kept a few sheets for myself).

I'll be taking a breather, since handling an order a week from Japan is just taking up a bit too much time right now. However, I'm still willing to coordinate (and likely place) the orders, so feel free to PM me if you're interested in a future order. I just need to catch my breath until later next month.

If anyone absolutely needs 100 sheets (or 2) and can't wait, I can take some from my personal stash, but I'm not running it down to zero again

If anyone I've sent paper to (or any other TR fiends) wants to send me an ink / nib sampler on TR that I can scan in (next time my scanner is out), that would be neat. Please include your FPN name on it so folks know who the contributor is. Of course you should feel free to scan and post it yourself if you'd like.
