In Paper Heaven 完全

Well after placing two orders and passing them all around, I'm still only left with one ream (and a request for another one in line). Anyway, I guess I'm about to place yet *another* order for cream. I can ship to US or Canada priority mail, either 1000 sheets (reams) or if you just want a "taste" you can get approx. 100 sheets (by weight). If you're interested in some, PM me for the details.

BTW, this second shipment is (like the first I received) 10mm oversized in each dimension from A4.

Please sign me up for this. PM on its way to you.

Saying a big "Thank you! Thank you!" to reprieve for the generous sample she sent me. This is writing heaven!! :cloud9:

I'd probably get the Novi size too - it's 8% more paper for the same price! It'll fit a standard US envelope, and I have no intention of running it through a printer.

But how wacky, dragon, that there exists an international standard but also two sanctioned violations of it. Well, the square root of 2 is an irrational number so maybe the standard is supposed to be a little irrational?

The exception sizes are intended for industrial customers with the expectation they'll trim the paper to standard A4 before sale to consumers. I think the idea is that by trimming the paper to final size after printing and/or binding, if the binding is slightly off square, or if there are any ink stains or damage on the edges, the final product will still be salable at full price after final trimming of the paper.

Thanks, Sam and penhand, for your clarifications of the machine translations.

When you say "black" to a printer in "big business" the word is almost meaningless, so innumerable are its meanings. To the craftsman, on the other hand, black is simply the black he makes --- the word is crammed with meaning: he knows the stuff as well as he knows his own hand. --- Eric Gill

I've been using the Tomoe River paper a lot and am very happy with it. However, the other day I noticed that when I got a drop of water on some "very dry" Noodler's ink on the paper (days old), it created a puddle of color.

I did some experiments with (1) Tomoe River (2) vintage Sphinx onionskin and (3) 20 lb HP general purpose paper. Writing on all three papers with Noodlers Heart of Darkness (a supposedly "bulletproof black") and immediately dropping water onto each writing and blotting with a paper towel.

The results? The HP paper (that is highly absorbent and feathers like crazy) did not shed any ink. The onionskin (fairly porous) shed some ink. The Tomoe River had a nice colored pool on it and much of the ink appeared to "lift".

I guess the results shouldn't be surprising, as Noodlers states their bulletpoof inks "are also waterproof once permitted to dry upon cellulose paper". I assume the low cellulose content of the onionskin and the inability to penetrate (or low cellulose content) of the Tomoe River is what causes the ink to lift after writing on it.

This really won't change my affection or use for the Tomoe River paper, its smoothness and lack of feathering and bleed through is great (which is probably what keeps the ink from "soaking in" as much as with other papers).

However, I will defer from writing letters on Tomoe River paper while in the shower.

It does indeed take a bit of time for the stuff to dry and bond fully. I have a test sheet a few days old with Kiwaguro, Seiboku, Noodler's Black, Baystate Blue, and some iron gall inks, and they handled the water test exactly as they should have (the IGs losing some dye, the rest not lifting at all), but I have touched a page with condensation on my hands a few minutes after writing and ended up with some lifting.

I absolutely love this paper and would love to see some US sourcing. My supply came via a ream from Penhand's latest order (thank you Penhand - super fast shipping and arrived in terrific shape Saturday). I've only tried a few nibs and one ink, but so far it's a great addition to my options. I, like others, was surprised at how thin it is, but it's honestly a welcome addition and supplement to the bulkier standards normally necessary to enjoy fountain pens. Very elegant.

I agree, I'd love to see some US sourcing and stop pasting Japanese characters into Google Translate. In the meantime, I don't understand how after ordering all that paper I have almost none left?!?! Anyway, I've placed yet another order for 4 reams (hoping once again this is the last order). If anyone still wants a ream or a 100 sheets PM me for details.

Just so you know Penhand, it does not go unappreciated that you are ordering and selling this paper to the rest of us. My wife and I both are eagerly awaiting the arrival of this paper.

Absolutely - hopefully my appreciation is clear. I'll happily support penhand as official us distributor! I've not been as well treated from many purpose-dedicated businesses.

I'm loving stacking a number of sheets and keeping them loose on my desk for various compilations and ideas. Loosely organized. A great feeling paper.

A big thank you from me as well. As for penhand becoming official us distributor, let's make it "world distributor", as my 200 sheets of paper will soon cross the pond to Switzerland.

I'm down to less than 20 sheets in my personal stash, so if anyone wants some from the new order, PM me so I have you on the list.

I placed a new order yesterday and didn't get any response, which is not typical at all. I wondered if we actually ran the company out of paper...

So I did a bit of searching and the ever efficient Google Translate showed me this calendar for their hours.

Now as anyone can see, they are clearly closed on Fire-day 14 August and Water-day 15 August. Also "During the holiday shipping business, please reply to the inquiry and can not, please note."

Gotta love Google Translate.

... I do like that Friday is Gold-day.

Adding my thanks to this. I'm looking forward to my first package, and very happy I don't have to try to manage 4000 sheets or even 1000.

Thanks to the graciousness of penhand, :notworthy1: I am now the proud owner of 2 reams of this lovely paper. :bunny01: :bunny01:

Another vote for a distibutor to heed the call of the tomoe river sirens.

More paper should be arriving soon, should be shipped early next week. If anyone who hasn't already contacted me is interested in 100's of sheets or reams, PM me.

My shipment is almost on its way from Japan to The Netherlands. I spoke with a printer today, he can make notebooks out of this, I am thinking of 50 sheets A4, half A4 and one fourth A4. Thanks to all the people who have described their experiences here. Ruud
