In Paper Heaven 完全

OK, paper mavens ... I've just placed an order for a ream (4000 sheets) of this paper. Won't know full details until later, but I'll offer it in lots as small as 100 sheets. I don't expect to make anything, but will want to have all costs covered. I won't know full costs for a few days...

So, if you're interested, email me at: svhillis@chilitech.com to reserve some. Just indicate how much you want at this time. To be fair, it'll be first come, first serve.

As I say, I just paid Tenso to purchase the paper. It'll take a few days for them to get it, then I'll arrange shipping to me in North Carolina. So I'm thinking I'll have it next week.

This is a US group purchase due to shipping costs and logistics.

First, a big "shout out" to everyone who has ordered and distributed Tomoe River paper over the last month while I took a break. I spent a bunch of time journaling during the month in a homemade journal with TR paper - journal cost = <$10, feeling of satisfaction writing in a journal I made myself with the paper I love = priceless.

Anyway, I expect a bunch of paper to get here shortly and should have enough to fulfill a fair number of requests. I send out 100, 200, and 300 sheet packages and full 1000 sheet reams to the US, Canada and Internationally.

Unless you just received a PM from me today, you are not on my list for this next shipment, please PM me to fix this problem.

Note that I have increased the ream price by $20 in the US (a bit more international) to more accurately reflect the time, supplies and hassle of getting in 4 reams and then turning around and re-shipping them to 2-4 people. Also, I will optionally insure your shipment from USPS damage for an additional $5 for US shipments (contact me for pricing for international insurance).

So - if after all that you're still interested, PM me and I'll send you the updated info.

Be warned, I had 8 reams last time and they went in 2 days. This time I'm getting 12 reams but I'm not sure they will last that much longer, especially since some of the reams are already spoken for.

Paper has arrived and is being shipped out. I still have some left, so if you're interested in 1-2 reams or 100/200/300 sheets, PM me.

For those of you who find wish the Tomoe River paper was available as a pad instead of a loose ream, I've just posted a tutorial on making your own pads

here

I make my pads from Tomoe River paper by cutting the paper in half which makes it perfect to use for correspondence and taking notes at my desk.

If anyone is interested in comparing Tomoe River to other paper, I have some paper samplers on the classifieds that includes Tomoe River and a bunch of other papers.

I have been lurking, but having read through this whole thread by the time I came to the end I fell down the rabit hole and have contacted penhand about getting some of this paper. I am a real mutt when it comes to handwriting and a relative newbie to fountain pens but I am also a sucker for 'special deals' and I am sure that I would never purchase 4000 sheets of paper, even if it were free.

Some reflections here:

I was struck earlier when there was the whole "if you have to ask you can't afford it" conversation. I wasn't offended, we've all heard that befor and I took it as a typical off hand remark. I recommend we all be a little more sensitive, and also, ... a little less sensitive. I will admit I assumed none or very few would purchase this paper, not just out of concern for cost but all the complications that go along with it. You are an amazing band of nuts. I'm glad that crazed pen afficianods 'endeavored to persevere' and though I feel a little guilt for free riding on the backs of those who have done the heavy lifting, I am greatful for their efforts.

This will be a treat for me, I live out in the country so the little yellow note in the P.O. Box signifying 'package at the desk' is always a treat, no matter if the package contains lawn mower parts or a vintage pen (doesn't take much to get us hicks excited!) and Diane the Post Mistress finds these little packages coming from around the world interesting as well.

Once I have a chance to take this paper for a test drive, I will make a decision on whether or not to puchase a Design Y journal. I like the idea of the LP journal but wish it were available in the larger size. I assuime this is not possible and that there is no such thing as a 'special order' for this. Any thoughts?

Well, if you really want to fall down the rabbit hole, you could make your own journal from TR paper. I (and I'm sure a number of others here) have done it. It was a great feeling on vacation to keep a journal on TR paper that I had made myself. The TMLee handmade journal thread is wonderful and chock full of great information.

If you're looking for lined paper, some folks (myself included) have had good success with printing on the TR paper. Just yesterday I ran 200 sheets though my laser printer and put faint lines on one side. I tried to "manually duplex" the paper (turn it over) but because it is so thin, it would not reliably re-feed without jamming. The first feed through was perfect and it just chugged along.

I padded the paper up and now have 4 pads of 50 sheets each of lined TR paper. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep them or not since I usually like writing on the "half sized" sheets, but it was a useful exercise. More importantly, it was a good way to use up some paper that had gotten slightly damaged (wrinkled / bent) in shipping. The heat from the fuser on the laser printer ironed most of it out and now I have paper with lines that is almost good as new. I great trick to keep in mind for any slightly wrinkled / bent paper.

I wish my printer were as well behaved. I have to run through each page individually to get lines to print and I can't do too many at a time or the printer gets fussy. But I am able to print lines and I am totally in love with this paper. I never understood how everyone was raving about this or that paper, it's just paper right? Nope, not all paper is created equal. :cloud9:

I have been looking for paper like this for such a long time! I have tried numerous combinations but I think this might be it.

But, I have bought from overseas before and jumped through all the hoops and I don't know if I am ready to go through all of that again. I might just wait until someone on here has some for sale again and buy a ream that way.

I have a screw post binder made out of soft-pull leather that I use to write my novels in. The problem with it is that once I start to get about 3/4 of the way through the binder, the pages that i have written on that I am turning past start to become a hassle as the are so thick when bunched together and turned. Therefore, I resulted in using onion skin paper that is thinner and doesn't have the same problem but, it is so fragile!

I can't wait till I can get my hands on some of this. If it fits my bill, I guarantee that 4,000 pages won't hold a candle to the amount I will end up getting.

So if anyone has some for sale, please PM me!

Just wanted to say, I just finished ordering from the user PenHand and I couldn't be more pleased. He replied quickly and was very professional. I hope he continues to do this, as if I like the paper, I will be ordering more, and hopefully from him.

I have had my ream of paper for a few weeks now, and it is reducing at an incredible speed!

I cut it in half as I prefer A5(ish) size paper when my back is sore, and have a cheap paper cutter from Office works. This paper takes everything I use on it, with it, for it!!!

Everyone who receives a letter from me comments, so when I reply I enclose a few sheets for them to try. Hennypenny was one, and now has organized an order!

I just wanted to say that it is the most pleasing paper I have ever tried, and believe me, I've tried a few!!

Thanks again 'penhand'.

Make it count!!!

"The paper arrived yesterday, I am thoroughly enjoying using it."

RHK - though I have no interest at all in owning 4,000 sheets of paper I must say your photos make this appear to be a really fun package to receive and open up. All that is lacking as the late Andy Williams might say is the 'tied up with string' part.

Having opened numerous boxes of paper from Japan (and one today) it is a little fun but also somewhat terrifying. The outer box is usually somewhat dented from the plane ride. Mine goes Tokyo to JFK and I always imagine the baggage handlers miscalculating the weight and it rolling off the conveyor onto the ground. The paper bundles in the boxes have shown up a few times showing signs of ... Stress? The only packaging in ANY of the boxes is just some paper that doesn't provide much protection if the box takes a tumble or fall. None of the bundles has ever been totally split open, but most times there are one or more bundles partially split. Today was good, only one bundle partially split. A few weeks ago, 7 bundles out of 8 were almost totally split apart. If a bundle ever totally splits open, I'm pretty sure 1000 sheets will need some TLC (assuming they are just wrinkled and dented and not ripped apart).

Does this mean you received more paper?

I see you are from PA, me too. What part do you live in? Maybe I could save on some shipping.......

I have plenty of Tomoe River cream right now. For anyone near Pittsburgh, I will be at the next Fountain Pen Meeting on October 23. If you want some Tomoe River, PM or email me and you can save on the shipping.

For anyone looking to compare TR to other premium papers, I've put a few more paper samplers up on the classifieds that includes 30 sheets of TR.

... And from my listing "makes a great Christmas gift for your spouse or significant other! Imagine your brother-in-law's face on Christmas day when he opens a paper sampler pack of his very own!"

At least you know he will use your gift. Bundle a sample pack with a pen you are no longer using and Presto, an excuse to buy yourself a new pen too!

(yes, I am a shameless enabler)

A big shout out to Penhand for organizing so many "buying opportunities" for this paper! I made one group purchase and would like to second what he said about receiving an order of this paper -- it's a scary experience because it's not very well packed when shipped. It arrives in a box that may have bad corners and some crumpling. And the packages of paper inside are partially split open and not overly protected. Having done this, I'm aware of how much effort goes into counting the sheets, packaging for mailing, keeping track of who wants what, and getting it all to the post office -- and then finding out what the Post Office can do to your packages! But it arrives and it's wonderful to write on

Again, kudos to Penhand!! HP

I too would like to chime in with a somewhat belated public thank you to penhand. The paper is awesome & I can't imagine how I ever would have gotten to try it w/o the help of an ace FPNer like him!
