Is This A Fake Lamy Safari?

Folks,

So I don't know if people have seen this post in one of the earlier threads, but it's from 2008, and shows a green pen with a black section.

If my FPN quoting mojo works, the following should point there:

Link to FPN post from 2008, showing green Lamy Safari

Apologies if this has already been seen/discussed.

Mike

I just bought a new Al-Star that has a transparent - smoke section, not translucent. Body and cap are a purple, chrome clip.

edit -- a special edition, I discover, called "Black Purple".

Since JamesTKirk bought one of these mystery pens at a 'real' store, I would not be so quick to return it. You might have something really good and unusual.

Even if not, it still looks cool.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

The issue is that the pen was originally sold as a Lime Green 2008 Limited Edition Safari. The pen is not a 2008 limited edition Safari pen. Personally, I would want my money back.

I think it´s definitely a Frankenpen... as already someone said above, there was a special edition Lime Green Safari around 2007 or 2008, with black clip and nib, and front section in the same colour as the body. A similar thread was published a few weeks ago, with a supposed "prototype" pen that had a 1.1 nib, a black cap of the Lamy Joy and a regular red Safari body.

Nice looking combination though...!

I will look in other shops of the same company if they have more of this. It is not unusual that we can purchase some year old stock not available in other countries. :-)

Well, now JamesTKirk has produced another one, and ruined all of my fun. I had originally assumed a retailer had had several pens out at once, and in a rush to put them away, simply made a mistake. I was so enjoying the thought of someone, somewhere opening his brand new Graphite Grey AlStar to find a Lime Green section...............

it seems we can continue hoping this will happen at least for three times :-)

Hello, sorry for my bad english. It is not a fake lamy. Two years before they produce the safari lime, Lamy put in some markets some models like this to study the market and the impresions of the consumers. In this momentare like hybrids but lamy sold like original models. Then they began to introduce the special editions each year, before this they only sell the basic 5 models.

Here are some pics of this experimental models.

  • 2 weeks later...

What do you think?

He says it's yellow, but in the pictures it's some kind of lime green...

And the nib without marks is strange...

Looks to me like it's a first gen yellow with the metal screw on the cap; these came with black nibs that were unmarked. I'm not sure when these were phased out to make way for the ones we see nowadays with the plastic screw and black/chrome clip. But to my eyes it's definitely not a special lime.

This is definitely not the new lime green Safari. First off the color is more camo-green like an older safari. If the clip is black, it it was made from older Lamy parts, more than 2 years old as the clips for new Safari's have been silver for several years now. The cap and barrel look like Safari parts and the nib looks like an Al-star. If you want the real deal, we have them in stock at Lamyusa.com

This is definitely not the new lime green Safari.

Just to avoid confusion: the 2012 green Safari is not Lime green. Lime was the 2008 fashion colour.

It's not that either!

We've already established that it has an Al-Star front section (with the addition of a Safari black o-ring).

Anyway, I have some official information on these "rogue" Lime Green Safaris. It so happens that I saw our Lamy rep the other day (he has worked for the company for about 30 years) and I asked him about the pen as pictured in the original post. As suspected up-thread, they are factory prototypes, not simply frankenpens. I know some came to the UK to give away as freebies at a department store special event as that's what happened to be "lying around". If these prototypes were sent to the UK rep, it follows that other prototypes could have made their way out via other channels.

Hi All, If of any help or interest, the 'Apple' green Safari has been seen on sale in UK high street shops since about 1 May 2012.

The whole pen is green and has a chrome clip. It is sold on the silver card package, with the silver polythene pen case and one ink cartridge.
