Hi

I've just taken delivery of a Lime green Lamy Safari from Ebay, but it's not like my other safaris - it has a transparent black part and a black nib. The cap has a black cross on it.

Is this legit ?

[apologies, it's not a great photo]

I don't know about the section being black, but I do know that Safaris are available with black nibs.

But like Koyote says, who would bother faking a Safari? It's like making a fake Timex watch.

Who would fake a Lamy Safari?

Exactly!

I'm checking in case it's a version released elsewhere that I don't know about - I was expecting completely green with steel colored nib

I know next to nothing about Lamys but it looks like a Safari barrel on an Al-Star section.

Exactly. I´ve got many AlStars and a few Safaris, and this looks like a hybrid of them.

£32.44 :headsmack:

I haven't inked it - the ebayer was selling a lot of Lamys and said they were selling their collection..

If they'll fake $2 Hero pens, then why not Safaris?

I think there is a difference though--no one makes copies of hero pens---they make copies of parkers.....etc...and those copies aren't dubbed as parkers.

Marshsall

Wrong on the first count; right on the second. Hero styles their pens on others' designs but doesn't label them so.

However, there ARE counterfeit Hero pens. Search the forums here and you'll find info, including ways to tell real Heros and fake Heros apart.

This is what it is. You have a lime green Safari body with a smoke/transparent section from an Al-Star and a black nib. Lime Safaris are completely lime green and opaque, and they were sold with standard steel nibs (not black).

Well, thanks! I never would have imagined they would do that. I learned something new!

Well, it is admittedly pretty bizarre in an economic sense. I kind of assume that these are being turned out during off-times at another factory or something. How many counterfeit Heros would it takle to recoup the cost of the equipment to make them?

The seller is assuring me it is the Lime Green Lamy Safari - she says that the first editions all had a black clip and is ignoring the issue of the black barrel.

Precisely. My guess is that the seller had the Safari, but broke the feed or nib somehow and just swapped on an Al-Star section.

When my Al-Star feed broke last week, I pulled the section off my Vista and put it on the Al-Star.

(I prefer the Al-Star with a totally clear section, anyway.)

I bid on that pen!

I bought another pen off the same person though in an earlier auction. Seemed fine.
