'big Hand' Purple Celluloid

Hello folks,

Quite some time ago, another member here contacted me to have she do a pen in celluloid. Unfortunately, it just isn't easily available to me in Canada, so he took it upon himself to purchase some from American Art Plastics, have it brought across the border (tricky shipping this stuff across because of its highly combustible nature), and then shipped to me from within Canada.

At long last, the beautiful material arrived, and I got started on it.

He wanted a 'Big Hand' size pen, so I made this one with the thicker front section, and made the pen proportional to it. Like the vast majority of my pens, it is fitted with the steel JoWo nib, and is a c/c fill.

The glory of this pen is this celluloid - beautiful stuff, and as has been noted before, pictures just don't do it justice! It has a cool laminar purple pattern, but superimposed on that are shimmering metallic streaks (in the photos they look kind of like dust. They aren't.)

This was my first experience with celluloid, and it was quite interesting - particularly how the strong camphor vapours cleared out the sinuses :)

It is indeed a big pen - the last couple of pics show the celluloid pen with my Pelikan M605 for size comparison.

Great shape. I like the mild step down and cap that is not quite flush with the body. How much for an acrylic like this?

The pen is made out of celluloid, not acrylic. If you would like to know how much it will cost, please contact Ken back-channel, as he will be breaching FPN rules disclosing prices, as this isn't a sale topic.

That is a stunner Ken! Beautiful clean lines, and that material looks fantastic. I was looking at the AAP website the other day drooling!

very nice pen

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time
