Thanks so much for the explanation Hari - it is most appreciated and gives

me a better idea of which pens to look into.

Today is my first day with a new Deccan Author (similar to the Aurelius hari mentions just above). What a marvelous pen--not only a smooth, first-time writer with excellent flow characteristics, but one of the most natural-feeling pens in the hand that I've ever experienced. It feels as if someone had taken measurements of my hand and recorded my writing style, then built a pen specifically for me. The effect is significant enough to show up in my writing.

And like every Deccan I've seen, the pen is beautiful to look at and superbly finished.

If it's not indiscreet, how much did you pay for yours?

I've bought a number of Indian pens and have in most cases been pleased with them. The current one that I use is an Airmail 69T which is a smooth and reliable writer, not to mention beautiful. The Camlins I've bought (Trinity and 47) have both been excellent. The one I will never again use after trying it once is the Lazor hero.

Not at all. I don't recall the exact price, but hari had one for sale in the classifieds a while ago. You might check there.

I just got my Deccan Masterpiece this morning. I put it in my bag, planning to ink it once I got home tonight, but I think it ate 2 of my other pens in there. I have to keep it away from the others. It is a monster!

A BHR Ratnamson Supreme, F nib that my friend Ashish gave me, inked with Aurora black, used it after a gap of two weeks I think. I had last filled the pen three months back, IIRC. I have plugged the cap holes with wax, thus zero dryouts and perfect starting each time I uncap the pen and put the nib to paper. :cloud9:

I have a bunch of Guiders and one Ranga inked this week - the Ranga I am using to write a short story, while the Guiders are inked to test them out (I just got them from the company last week).

From left to right:

- Guider L Ebonite Mottled Brown with Skrip Blue -- terrible pen. Scratchy and every time I try to write with, a big drop of ink develops

on the underside of the feed

- Guider L Ebonite Black with Skrip Black -- decent writer but painfully dry

- Guider M flat top, mottled brown, Waterman Blue -- good writer. Was very dry initially, but after blading the tines, writes very well now. Had drying-out problems with it, but applied Hari's suggestion of waxing the breathing hole. So far, it's been holding up well.

- Guider S yellow celluloid, with Edelstein Mandarin -- also a very fine point and a little dry. Writes with a fair bit of tooth, but is still quite smooth. Were it a little wetter, it would be a gorgeous writer.

- Guider M flat top, brown, with PR Burgundy Mist -- was also quite dry, and I had to widen the channels in the feed a little with a razor. Now it writes really well, although PR Burgundy Mist is, IMO, a terrible ink

- Ranga Bamboo black ebonite, with Edelstein Sapphir - unlike the Guiders, my Rangas are all really good writers. This one comes with their stock Wality nibs (the Ranga Gajendras I have use a monster nib I got from Hari). The line is nice and wet, and the nib is very smooth. I like these pens so much that I've ordered 2 more, but with Jowo nib/feeds, so that I can use them with a CC.

Have a Deccan Masterpiece in white, a Deccan Aurelius and a Deccan Ambassador coming my way from the Deccan Pen Stores - spoke to them a little while ago and it should ship out today. And I have a few more Guiders I got from Hari that I also need to test/try out.

I'm using a Servex 162 with a flex nib today. It is a quite slow starter, but it is lots of fun to play with my first flex nib.
