Newly-arrived Gama Supreme green ebonite flat-top. I replaced the original feed with a Sheaffer NoNonsense, but kept the Gama two-tone nib, which seems quite good. Delightful pen!

In addition to my double-ended Guider and black medium Gama, I'm using the new Gama Kuyil that I just went to the post office to pick up today, and a really nice writer it is. As to its looks, I have very mixed feelings about this matte ebonite, sometimes liking its low-key non-shininess, at other times wishing it were glossy... but I like the glossy flat ends, and also the end of the cap, where it meets the barrel when closed, is nicely polished. This makes for a contrast that appeals to me. The only other shiny element on the closed pen body is the beak-like clip which sits recessed in the cap so you don't see how it attaches, another subtlety that earns points. And then when you open it there is the two-tone nib, mentioned by rwilsonedn: quite good, indeed. My picture-taking skills don't do it justice, so I copied a picture from the asapens site where I found it... http://asapens.in/eshop/image/cache/data/Gama%20%20Matt%20Black/MB-02-500x500.JPG

I also got a little complimentary pen, a Fellowship (no model name or number that I can find), a completely clear demonstrator, ED filled. A fun little pen and a surprisingly good writer.

Wality 77 piston filler with the metal cap. I adjusted and smoothed the nib and opened up the channels in the feed. Now it writes nicely.

A flat-top black ebonite Guider Jumbo. After polishing the Guider gold-tone nib on 12000-grit MicroMesh and mylar film to remove "baby's bottom," which took all of 5 minutes, it's now a skip-free, firm fine nib, which I prefer. (I never could control a flex nib, which seems now to be all the rage, and which seems to give many people the same problem.)

The Jumbo is a huge pen, with a thicker section than my Gama Supreme, but I can handle it quite wells, as I have a large hand. And when I saw it sitting on my writing table this afternoon, with the nib pointed into, but not completely in the cap, I thought to myself, "Yes! That's the look of my ideal pen! Large and stocky, elegant and serious, with no bling. And it's light in my hand. A writer's pen!"

New Kim & Co. brown ripple ebonite cigar. Just received and inked yesterday. My first eyedropper, I am liking it a lot. I really like the look of the above Gama Kuyil, that might be something I need to look into...

It's a really nice pen, and I must say the matte black ebonite is growing on me the more I use it....

Picked up a series of inexpensive school pens called Bluesky, Swiss and Titus pens from a local stationery shop in Kerala. Does anyone have clue as who makes these pens? I presume these are made in Bombay (?). The nibs are agreeably smooth.

Titus is Bombay. House brand of the "Bombay Fountain pen depot".

Thanks Hari. Are these made by the people running a shop with same name in Abdul Rahman Street, Bombay? These are average to good pens in terms of performance.

Does anyone have review to offer about Triveni Acrylic pens which are up for sale on FPR? Where can one purchase one of these in India? Also, the same company brings out ebonites. Any views, reviews, anyone?

Its same as guider acrylic. The FPR operates from India but does not sell in India in INR. It asks for USD payments even for sale in India.

I put my savings to test

Lamy & Pilot FPs the Best

No more I even think of the rest

(Preference Fine and Extra Fine Nibs)

Pen is meant for writing - not for looking :-)

Ahab, where did you find these Indian school pens? I have turned my students on to fountain pens and may be looking to purchase some giveaways.

I've yet again inked my Camlin Trinity which is probably the pen I have that has had the most ink flowing through it. It might not be pretty, but it writes well, it's comfortable, it's practical, and might just survive a hydrogen bomb.

akstorm: which pen is that in your profile pic?

edit: typo
