akstorm, shrujaya and mhphoto- gorgeous pens

mhphoto, what kind of nib did the pen have prior to the Sheaffer? It writes beautifully and I like that color purple.

I look forward to learning more about Indian pens!

I have a new Wality 77 piston filler. The piston is stiff and the flow is poor. Does anyone know how to disassemble one of these pens? I want to set it up properly but I do not want to break it. It is a nice little pen. Thanks.

I figured it out. I opened up the channels in the feed, adjusted and smoothed the nib. Now it is writing well. This is a nice little pen.

I'm ,mostly using my Deccan Bullet jr with its new, Deccan nib. I did like the flex nib that FPR provided with it, except for the looks, since the pen has a gold-tone clip and the flex nib was one of the early ones, dull steel. The new nib (thanks Mesu!) had to be smoothed a little, and I polished it a bit to give it a stubbish character with noticeable line variation, a trait I am really starting to like in many pens. I lost the flex but gained an almost-stub, and it just looks better on the pen, since it too is gold toned. And since these are the only two metal elements on this pen, it's nice to have them match.

Thanks to Mesu, I am using a Wality 52D and Oliver Exam and I love both! Mesu is a professional and communicative seller and I would buy from her again.

Thank you Mesu. My Deccan Advocate and a gift pen arrived. My son has the gift pen and I have the Deccan. Does anyone one know if the nib is friction fit on this model. Do I need to use a knock out block to remove it? I like the pen but I cannot help but fiddle with the nib and feed setup.

The Deccan nib+feed are friction fit and best removed with a knock-out block as the fit is very tight.

Hope this helps.

The only Indian pen that I own and use is a Luxor.

I bought this in Moscow around 2005 for under $5. I can't find it at http://luxorpen.com or anywhere else on the internet. The closest thing I did find was the bottom one of this Luxor set (Nova Silver):

It writes much better than other pens I've had at this price. It also has a clicking mechanism on the bottom of the barrel to hold the cap on when posting, which I don't otherwise have. The one cosmetic downside is that the ink stained the area where the nib and feed fit into the section.

A Kim & Co. BIG. (Thanks, Mesu!) A delightful piece of ebonite mastercrafting, with a good Indian nib.

Preparing the pen for a first fill two days ago, I noticed a small, grooved ebonite rod placed in the ink hole at the back end of the nib. It looks to me like an adaptation for a breather tube, and I am waiting to see whether it has any effect on "burping." Though I'm using the Kim & Co. as my every-day carry, it may take a while to find out, as the depth of the bore in the barrel measures 7 cm. -- a lot of ink.

I wonder how much ink that is in milliliters. Some feeds have that tailpiece built into them. I know that many vintage Sheaffer's have them as well. I mostly notice burping when there is a substantial, rapid change in temperature. Most recently, my pens were in my bag when I rode my bike to work in cold weather. When i went into a warm building, my pen was cold to the touch. It warmed in my hand as i wrote and then it burped. The pen was full, so it was entirely based gaseous expansion.

Thanks for posting the video. The eyedropper at 11:20 or so has an obvious breather tube. This is different than the feed tailpiece that i was referring to above. It was also fun to see that every shot of a pen in use had the cap posted. No non posters in an official Sheaffer film. A fun watch.

Does anyone know anything about this pen maker? (I think the mark is actually Pratima Pen Co., not Platinum)

I picked up one of their ripple ebonite pens in a batch of old pens at our local flea market here in California, but I can't tell if the pen is old or new.

The pen is a really attractive eyedropper, in a very nice shape and size. I'd like to get more of these!

TERI

Pratima Pen Co is closed. Called them up and the lady on the other end (with great regret I could sense) informed that they have stopped production sometime ago...
