Parker Sapphire Blue

Now that I've looked at PPS again, and see that it isn't always magically iridescent, the basic color of it is very nice but not like it can't be improved upon with a tweak towards personal preference. I tend to like a hint of purple in my blues that it and the Noodler's don't start off with. Which is why I'm still looking fwd to Diamine Sargasso.

I think you're all nuts, as I have to strain to detect any difference between Penman Sapphire and regular Noodler's Blue, even in a close side-by-side comparison.

I know PPS can develop a sort of purple sheen when it dries on certain types of paper, but even then it's subtle. Meanwhile, Noodler's Blue is readily available, inexpensive and water resistant (which PPS is not).

Here's comparing the 85:15 PR American Blue and water. Noodler's Blue is a better match by my eye, but it's pretty close.

Forgive the thread resurrection, but I just did a 30 blue ink comparison on a whim tonight, and I threw in Penman Sapphire and Noodler's Blue (& eel), so it's a nice re-test. Not an exact match, but darn close still. No sheen here on HP 32lb laser paper.

And for the true geekiness of it, chromatography of PPS & Noodlers Blue:

No shortage of well saturated blue inks that closely mimic PPS. The ink makers have this area of the color spectrum hosed down. I know we love a richly colored blue ink, so everybody has to have one, but personally, I'm a little burnt out on this color and style of ink.

Is there an area of the spectrum that isn't hosed down, between Diamine and Noodler's alone?

I have a wide range of colors inked and ready, but a nice blue is still one of my favorites.
