In my pocket at work, this Esterbrook.  People have different opinions on personalized vintage pens and pencils with the names of former owners engraved on them, but this one actually has the name of a business, somewhat worn.

Doesn't affect me one way or another.  It's a good pencil, but I have others that I carry more often.

Over the last week, I've carried several different pencils, starting with a Parker 45 GT and ending with an Autopoint 106 "Slimliner" ("for Real Thin Leads") that I recently acquired from halfhyde on eBay.

It's called a "body knock"... whereby bending the body causes lead advancement. It's an ingenious mechanism. This brand wasn't the first to make it, but their version is very good. The key advantage is the telescoping feature, making it nicely compact when not in use.

I started the day with a black Autopoint Jumbo All-American, but then the mail came, and now I'm carrying a green Sheaffer Fineline "Pearlie" with gold trim.

My Staedtler 780 with 2mm lead of unknown origin got a ton of use this morning. I've been using it more in order to finish off the lead so I can start something new. The lead is currently about 2cm long, so I've got a little more than 1cm left to use.

0.5mm Pelikan M300 (green stripe), with 2H leads.

I am a lousy sketcher, so I often need to redo images a few times to get the proportions, perspective, and or shading correct. The harder leads make erasing easier, especially after finishing with ink.

A Staedtler 925 35-20B, with the surprisingly dark and smooth HB lead that came with it.

I have that pencil in silver and use it regularly. It would be perfect if the plastic end cap fit snuggly rather than rattling. Does the black version also have that issue? Thanks.

This one actually takes some effort to remove. All in all, I'm quite pleased with it, as well as the little Kita-Boshi pointer I bought with it.

Excellent. Good to hear they corrected that flaw.

On closer inspection, this one's cap/button is metal, as is the entire pencil: no plastic anywhere. 🙂

Even better. It seemed out of place, though I liked to think they did it for balance, rather than petty financial reasons.
