What Pencil Are You Using Today?

I've been using Conté à Paris' 601 pencils. They are round graphite pencils - I can't see much difference between the B and 2B, but they do lay down a nice dark line that is quite easy to re-read and at £1.30 each they're very good. The sharpen to a long point.

Messing around with my Cross ringtop convinced me to go digging through ebay listings for Century pencils. Ended up with a couple of the old 0.9s with the spiral cut grip. Loaded one up with Pentel blue & the other with some Staedtler HB..

I have been using the Pilot Delful 0.5 mm with Pilot or Pentel HB lead.

I went from using mechanical pencil in school to decades of not using a pencil. I got the Delful (and a backup Delful) when I switched back to keeping a calendar/diary and address book on paper instead of on smartphone, and I pretty much only use it for that.

Pilot Delful pros: Retractable. Well made. Comfortable in the hand. Reliable so far. Not cheap, but inexpensive.

Cons: None really. If you want pretty, this isn't it (but it is attractive in a functional sort of way).

I have used the Pentel Graphgear 1000 (0.5mm), the Tombow Mono Graph Shaker (0.5 mm), and the Staedtler 925 35 05. I have the graphgear 1000 filled with Uni nanodia lead in 2b, and the others with pentel super hi polymer in hb.

Today I've been writing with a good old Pentel P205, in a pleasing burgundy colour, filled with an Ain Stein 2B lead.

Lined paper makes a prison of the page.

Alvin Draftmatic in 0.9mm. Easily one of my top 5 mechanical pencils.

Faber-Castell E-motion - do like the soft 1.4mm B lead. Just a little smaller in diameter compared to 2mm lead holder, yet the lead does seem to be nicer for writing.

The screw for extending or retracting of lead is clean and simple.

A Pilot Vanishing Point mechanical pencil in 0.5mm with Pentel Ain Stein 2B lead. Also, a vintage Eagle Turquoise 2mm lead holder with vintage (1970's) Eagle 2B lead.

Prismacolor Scholar: Various colors, and because I'm too lazy to get my regular Prismacolor set from the closet where I keep them.

Caran d'Ache: Grafwood 9B and, my all-time favorite pencil, a Blackwood HB

Tombow: Mono 2H and 4H

Obviously, I have drawing on my agenda.
