What Pencil Are You Using Today?

After many years of only doing drawing and illustration over a computer o portable device, I finally got back to using charcoal and graphite to create drawings. As such, I've been playing with many pencils, mechanical pencils and lead holders. My current working tools are:

 

Uni Kuru Toga Roulette 0.5 with 4B Ain Stein lead

Cross Century 0.9 with Sheaffer F15 2H leads

Kita-Boshi Wood Lead Pencil with 2.0mm Kita-Boshi B lead

Steadtler Mars Technico 780C with Streadtler Mars Carbon 2.0mm HB lead

Caran d'Ache Fixpencil 3 with Caran Tecnograph 3B lead

Kaweco Sketch Up Brass 5.6 with Koh-I-Noor 2B lead

Keuffel + Esser 5320 with Koh-I-Noor Metallic lead

And last but not least a Steadtler allXwrite HB graphite pencil

I do the daily crossword with a Rotring 600 Lava finish MP.

 

If i carry a pencil it will usually be a Pentel with .05 lead.

I've been thinking about buying an S20. Would you recommend it? I like heavier pencils, and I really like the look of the S20. The wooden barrel is very attractive, and different from any other pencils I have.

 

If you like heavier pencils, you should consider the s10. The s20 is only moderately heavy.

 

That said, yes, the s20 is definitely a quality pencil. I have no qualms about recommending it if you happen to find it attractive looking.

Today I'm using a Dixon Executive 1402-2.5

Palomino Blackwing 74 - the raised cartography lines on the pencil make it a tactile joy to use.

 

It is rather soft, so I'm sharpening for every paragraph - but it is a nice experience.

 

I promised myself no more pens, so now I have a collection of pencils too. Not very clever.

Today, am trying to put a new lead in a silver vintage Eversharp chevron pencil, we got at a car boot! I've been using the original 1930s' lead - but it finally ran out!

Shahson's Goldfish Autocrat 5000, a surprising good pencil, and an Apsara Steno, another quality pencil for the price, both possess smooth graphite cores that have been a joy to use.

I was looking for an excuse to pick up a 0.3 pencil & a Pentel Graphgear 500 in some size. Did some digging around & settled on a JDM Graphgear 500 0.3. Been playing around with it since yesterday.

I've had good luck with the Papermate Mirado Classic in 2.5 lead.

I'm also experimenting with the Prismacolor Ebony sketch pencil #14420.

A R Silver capped English made Parker 51 cap actuated pencil that I now use as a ballpont as it also takes Parker ballpont refill.

For the last couple of weeks I've been using a Uni Mitsubishi 2mm lead holder that I got from JetPens with Uni B lead in it.

WHSmiths 2B pencil. For 69p, it is a rather nice pencil If you haven't tried Smith's individual pencils, their B and 2B pencils are certainly worth a try.
