These are getting rare. I went to hunt for some of these in 2B and other softer grades. They are better than those being made in South East Asia, German lead or not....

Kuru Toga Pipe Slide. They finally did it. They put a retractable sleeve on the Kuru Toga. It's only an upgrade from the base model body so far, but it's there. Now I'm hoping they revise the rest of the line so I can get an upgrade to the Roulette. :bunny01:

Two in play today. Faber Castell E-motion 1.4mm B lead and Yard-o-led Perfecta 1.1 H lead.

Who would have thought? one wide and one slim body. They both have a nice smooth twist mechanism for lead advance which seems to be one driving force.

Vintage 1906 Eberhard Faber Gilt #4 for light sketching. Pencils from that time are so well made and beautiful its amazing. These have a lacquered appearance.

Prismacolor Turquoise HB. I like this pencil, but if feels and writes more like a hard H ou 2H. Keeps its point for a good while. Always like the silver color metal ferrule with the red line (no eraser on this model, more like a metal cap at the end).

A few pencils to try in the next days... Hopefully the Faber Castell 9000's will rise to the occasion and fulfill its quality reputation of old, the ones made in Germany at least!

The Rotring Tikky 0.5 is the same pencil (and color btw) as my papermate precision. Who made them, Papermate, Rotring, or someone else all together?

I really don’t know… my Tikky is for sure a Rotring one.

They are just the same..!!! I have never seen these Paper Mates before. I am sure they do not trade here in Greece, you can find other product from Paper Mate though. Aren't there any copyrights ? Is this the same brand under different name ?

Papermate and Rotring are both owned by the same company: Sanford which in turn is part of Newell Rubbermaid. Sanford also owns Parker, Waterman and many others and appear to be planning to own every single remaining brand of pens.

Aramchek, do you know if Newell Rubbermaid manufactures, or do they just farm everything out?

I have had Sanford items in the past.

Man, what a can of worms!

It varies.

I don't know what the status is on all their products (and what I know might be outdated or just plain wrong).

Waterman is made in the Waterman factory in France. Confusingly, Waterman France used to be a subsidiary of Waterman US but later took over.

Parker is also made in the same French factory except the cheaper models that are made in China. I don't know if it is outsourced or if Sanford owns a plant there.

India is an exception in both cases, Waterman and Parker pens and inks sold there are made by the Indian company Luxor which also has a low-end model called Parker Beta which I believe is only made there.

I know many Rotring pencils are made in Japan, but not by whom. They still look like classic Rotring pencils though, which might mean that Sanford did the design, or asked the Japanese company to design them to resemble German made Rotrings. I don't know where or by who their other items are made, but Sanford still has a pretty big building in Hamburg so they might still have some production there. .

I do have a Papermate metal fountain pen and mechanical pencil set that are rumoured to be made by Mont Blanc but noone seems to know where that rumour originated.

All four of these companies used to be independent from each other.

I also used a pair of opposites: A Sheaffer Prelude, wide, heavy and brushed chrome, and an Autopoint Timberline Executive, slender, light, and rosewood (and all too tempting, apparently, for my dog Bob; I think I've bought four of them so far).
