What Pencil Are You Using Today?

Kaweco AL Special 0.5 mini. Worst purchase I've made on a pencil, but it does well as a pocket pencil. Heavy weight and short stubby don't really go well together. Normally I use a drafting pencil (of any kind works for me) but lost it recently. Pentel's GraphGear 500 I used for forever before it broke falling down the stairs :yikes:

Indeed... The small size does not help at all. As a sketch pencil, yes, as a regular mechanical pencil, no.

The only pencil currently seeing active duty is an old Japanese made Koh-I-Noor Rapidomatic in 0.3mm. I've had it forever (since graduate school) and it's still going strong.

Papermate MIrado Classic Black HB 2 made in Mexico. Found an open pack in a drawer. It is garbage. Crumbly graphite, uneven finish, terrible paint job. Won't be using it tomorrow.

Contrary to the trend in this particular thread, it's been ages since I last used a mechanical pencil. These days I use either a Faber Castell Grip 2001 or a Caran D'Ache natural wood pencil that I got as a gift from Apple Computer more than a decade ago.

Pilot S20 0.5mm B lead

Uni Kuru Toga 0.5mm HB lead

Pentel Graphgear 500 0.3mm HB lead

Rotring 300 2mm HB lea

My lead variety is not very good atm. I am striving for 2B to 4H in 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9, and 2mm sizes with drafting pencils to match

Don't mind me, I like to ramble... A LOT

2B-4H on a .3 isnt highly likely to happen

but you have 2H-2B for .3mm

.5mm has the "normal" offerings from

4H-4B its just the the thickness could actually handle these lead grades

.4, .7 and .9 has the same lead offering

H-2B

the sweetest spot for leads seems to be .5mm along with the 2.0mm to have the maximum lead variety meaning its actually the "common" lead grades that will have the most

I use 2B lead in my 0.3mm pencils. I believe it's Pentel Ain-Stein, but I could be mistaken.

I am using a pencil infrequently but I always have my trusty Faber Castell 4600 clutch pencil (and corresponding sharpener) in the bag. If nothing else works it will. For book underlining and margin comments I use a simple Faber Castell 9000 wooden pencil. Smooth to write and very cheawable too :D

I used my OHTO sharp pencil - a mechanical pencil fashioned to look like a wooden pencil.

It was the first writing implement out of the drawer - not used to mechanical pencils, I keep on breaking the lead.
